Create lovely décor for any occasion.
- Time:1-1/2 hours
1Project time does not include drying time for neither the dye nor the spray paint.
Wash mason jars and let dry thoroughly.
Spray on Jade 12 to 15 inch from the surface, applying a light coat in even parallel, back-and-forth strokes. For the most even application of transparent color, start at the base of the jar and move upward. A plastic, lazy susan is helpful to spin the jar as you spray. If desired, apply another light coat. Each additional coat will deepen the color. Let coats dry thoroughly between applications.
Apply 2 light coats of sealer in the same manner to add extra durability and protection.
To create the metal hangers cut a piece of wire 1-1/2 times the diameter of the jar lip. Using the needle-nose plier create a loop at one end of the wire. Place wire around the jar to locate a halfway point then fashion another loop. Bend the loose end at a point to snuggly fit over the wire at the looped end.
Slip the end over the looped wire end to secure in place. Snip excess.
Cut two lengths of wire about 20 inch or desired length.
Insert end into a drill and lock in place. Have someone hold the other end or insert into a vise grip. Turn on drill to rotate wires into a thicker twisted wire.
Insert one end of the twisted wire into a loop of the wire collar, bend wire to secure in loop. Massage the wire into a U then insert the loose end into the other loop. Cut the wire to desired length and bend to secure in place.
Mist the exterior votive surface with water. Then spray with Rose Gold. Let set for 30 seconds. Dab off the moisture to reveal the irregular pattern of Rose Gold and the clear glass. The finer the mist, the smaller and finer the finish pattern will be.
Protect your work area with newspaper. Starting on the back side, closely spray Jade on the wood plaque, allowing the spray to puddle. Completely cover the whole back. With paper towel, immediately wipe Jade into the wood, staining it. Let dry.
Flip wood plaque over and apply Jade here in the same manner. (Tip: ensure sides are stained too.)
Mist Jade over the stained wood to even out the color. When dry, paper sand the surface to smooth out impurities with a piece of scrap paper. Apply additional coats if deeper color desired. Colors can be blended to shift the color in a desired direction. On this wood plaque a light misting of Sapphire was applied to push the Teal hue a little Bluer.
Using your computer, write a desired sentiment in a unique font and as large as the wood plaque will accommodate.
Print sentiment on the vellum paper. On the backside of the paper roughly pencil over the lettering. Place the vellum right side up, then trace the outline of the lettering onto the wood plaque.
Mix an equal amount of Rose and King Gold glitter in a small bowl. Using the narrow tip of the glue bottle fill in the lettering with glue. Immediately cover with the loose glitter.
Hold the sign on edge to remove excess glitter. Let the glue dry then brush away the remaining glitter.
5Flower Pots: With masking tape, mask the bottom third of the large terra cotta pot. Ensure the edge of the mask is adhered securely to create a crisp edge. Apply 2 light coats of Rose Gold, allowing color to dry between coats. When completely dry, remove the masking tape.
Spray a smaller terra cotta pot in 2 coats of Robins Egg Blue Spray another with 2 coats of Turquoise. When finish is dry heavily spray the color into the tip of paper towel that is wrapped around your index finger. Immediately wipe selected areas of the terra cotta pot to remove the color. This will create vintage finish.
If using live Cream hydrangea, line the terra cotta pots to hold water. Heavy clear storage bags with the zip section cut off will work if difficult to size a liner. Soak the floral foam. When completely wet, cut into sections and insert into lined pots.
If using live or silk hydrangea, mist with Sapphire. The dye will color Cream hydrangea, deepen Blue hydrangeas or blend with a Green hydrangea. Be sure to maintain a spraying distance of 18 inch when spraying fresh flowers. The blossom color will deepen with each additional layer of spray. In the large pot, insert the sign at a slight angle into the foam. Cut hydrangeas and place in floral foam. Design a mounded shape.
If using live succulents, remove from terra cotta pot they came in and remove all dirt from main stem. Insert wood pick into succulent stem and wire on if necessary.
If using live or silk succulents, spray some with Rose Gold. Arrange succulents in foam accenting the mounded design.
