Project Instructions

  • 1
Project time does not include drying time for neither the paint, the glue nor the doilies.
  • 2
Cut the burlap into 2 inch strips. Wrap burlap around the glass bottle. Hold the burlap in place and hot glue the pieces to each other so that they stay on the bottle when you let go. Cut the ends of the burlap to a point, as if it were the ends of a bow.
  • 3
Boil a pot of water and make tea to stain your doilies. (Note: two were used in this craft, but use as many or as few as you’d like.)
  • 4
Once your doilies are stained and dry, glue them to the burlap however you feel they look best.
  • 5
Trace your wooden pumpkin shape onto a piece of Bristol board and draw a smaller pumpkin inside of your tracing at about a 1/4 inch away from the traced lines. Cut along the edge of the smaller pumpkin.
  • 6
Paint the wooden pumpkin, Jack-O-Lantern and the Bristol pumpkin with Chalkboard paint.
  • 7
Cut pieces of natural twine and glue to the back of the wooden pumpkin. You can later hang buttons off the twine, if desired.
  • 8
Glue the Chalkboard-painted pumpkin to the Jack-o-Lantern-painted pumpkin and attach it to the burlap and doily.
  • 9
Use wire cutters to remove shanks from buttons. Layer small acorns and jack-o-lantern buttons on larger leaves. (Tip: do not use all the buttons. Save a few for the next step.)
  • 10
To make the pumpkin pie decoration, download and print project template. Layer and glue additional buttons within one of the equilateral triangles. Do not glue the buttons to the paper. Once you have made one equilateral triangle out of buttons, set it aside and make two more.
  • 11
Cut along the outer shape of the template and fold along the two lines inside. Tape the two ends to each other to make a standing paper pyramid.
  • 12
Lean each leaf button triangle against a side of the pyramid and hot glue to one another. The pyramid in the center will hold everything in place.
  • 13
When the glue is dry, pull the pyramid out from under the button leaf pile and glue a scarecrow button, pumpkin patch sign or stack of pumpkins to the top of it. Add a fall-themed sentiment on the Chalkboard-painted pumpkin.
