Project Instructions

    Before starting, download and print project template. Do not prewash fabrics. Press fabrics with a dry iron before cutting. Use 1/4 inch seam allowance and sew fabrics with rst unless otherwise noted. Press seams in direction of arrows. You will use 12 fabric quarters for the front of the quilt; 12 fabric quarters for the back of the quilt and 2 fabric quarters for binding.
    Special abbrevations:
    rst = right sides together
    wof = width of fabric

    Cutting:
    From each of 12 Fat Quarters (front): 4 pieces that are 8-1/2 inch x 8-1/2 inch for a total of 48 pieces.
    From each of 12 additional Fat Quarters (back):1 piece that is 17-1/2 x 20-1/2 for a total of 12 pieces.
    From remaining 2 Fat Quarters (binding): 7 pieces that are 2-1/2 inch x 21 inch for a total of 14 pieces.
    Trim quilt batting to 54 inch x 70 inch.

    Assembly:
    Lay out six squares in each row as shown or as desired for a total of eight rows (Diagram A from template).
    Beginning with Row 1, pin and sew RST; press seams in one direction as shown by arrows (Diagram B from template).
    Repeat to sew Rows 2-8, pressing seams in opposite directions as shown by arrows (Diagram B from template).
    Carefully match seam intersections and pin rows together. Sew and press seams in one direction.

    Finishing:
    Sew the backing pieces together as shown (Diagram C of template) to make a backing 60-1/2 inch x 68-1/2 inch. Press.
    Lay the pieced backing wrong side up (securing edges tautly, but do not stretch); center the batting on backing and quilt top right side up. Smooth layers. Starting at the center, baste the layers together with long stitches, small safety pins, or temporary basting spray. Quilt as desired.
    Trim batting and backing even with quilt top edges.
    Sew short ends of binding strips together in a continuous length. Press seams open. Press one short end 1/4 inch to the wrong side. Press binding in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Sew binding to the front of the quilt, mitering each corner (Diagram D of template). Fold binding to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place.
