Project Instructions

  • 1
    Notes:
Download and print project template before starting.
Sew with right sides together and a 1/4 inch seam allowance unless instructed otherwise. Press seams in the direction of the arrows.
The three different designs of fabric needed for this project are referred to as Fabric A, Fabric B and Fabric C in the instructions.
If project ever needs cleaned, hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Rinse well and air dry, using iron only if needed.
  • 2
Cut one piece of Fabric A at a 45 degree angle that measures 11 inch x 19 inch. This is the cover.
  • 3
Cut one piece of Fabric B at a 45 degree angle that measures 11 inch x 16 inch. This is the pocket. Cut a second piece of Fabric B at a 45 degree angle that measures 1-1/2 inch x 11 inch. This is the flap strip.
  • 4
Cut one piece of Fabric C at a 45 degree angle that measures 11 inch x 20-1/2 inch. This is the lining. Cut a second piece of Fabric C at a 45 degree angle that measures 1 inch x 11 inch. This is another flap strip. Cut a third piece of Fabric C at a 45 degree angle that measures 1 inch x 5 inch. This is the button loop.
  • 5
Make the pieced cover by sewing together the Fabric A cover, the Fabric C 1 inch x 11 inch flap strip and Fabric B 1-1/2 inch x 11 inch flap strip (Dia. A of the template). Press seams toward flap.
  • 6
Cut an 11 inch x 20-1/2 inch of the fleece interfacing. Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse the HeatnBond to the wrong side of the pieced cover.
  • 7
With wrong sides together, fold the Fabric B pocket in half as shown and press (Dia. B of the template). Pin pocket to Fabric C lining, raw edges 8 inch from left edge. Stitch 1/4 inch from raw edge (Dia. C of the template). Fold pocket back to left side covering seam and press. Topstitch 1/2 inch from pocket bottom. Baste pocket sides to lining.
  • 8
Make loop closure by carefully pressing Fabric C bias strip in half, wrong sides together. Open strip and press each long edge 1/4 inch in to center fold line. Fold strip so that pressed edges meet; press. Stitch close to the folded edges to finish loop (Dia. D of the template).
  • 9
Put cover and lining with right sides together, making sure pocket and pieced flap are on opposite ends. Align edges and pin all around the edges except for the flap. Create flap end shape by measuring and marking 3 inch from top and sides as shown. Connect the marks and cut off triangles (Dia. E of the template).
  • 10
Fold back the lining and place the loop made in step 8 on the right side of the cover flap as shown (Dia. F of the template). Baste in place. Pin cover and lining flap with edges even. Stitch around the outside leaving a 4 inch opening for turning (Dia. G of the template).
  • 11
Turn right side out and press well. Hand sew opening closed using a blind stitch.
  • 12
Measure 8 inch from edge of pocket end and fold as shown. Align edges and pin generously (Dia. H of the template). Beginning at the bottom, topstitch through all layers 1/8 inch from edge. Continue around the flap and back down the other side. Backstitch at the beginning and end.
  • 13
Stack two buttons and stitch approximately 3 1/2 inch from top edge of cover opening. Tip: place tablet inside cover to check button placement before sewing.
