Faux Cow Hide Wood Box
Start spreading the "moos" you've gone mad for this cattle-inspired treasure box! All you need is a wooden box, some stain, bovine-print felt, leather cord and a few other supplies. We're going to lasso in this Western-style project with a tassel to hold our jewelry but we just know you'll think of other ways to use it!
- Time:1 hour (+ drying time)
1Add Beads and Stain: Use the wood glue to adhere a wood bead on the bottom of the box on each of the box's four corners to give the box some legs. (For best results, all the beads should be the same size.) Apply the stain with the soft cloth and wipe off excess. Let dry.
2Add the Cow Look: Cut batting to fit size of top of box and tacky glue in place. Cover top of box with the cow felt. Begin at front to staple 1 inch of the felt under the top edge of the lid. Continue on both sides, ending in the back of the lid. (If you like add some tacky glue as you go for extra security.) Trim off excess felt in back. Fold front corners in on each side and glue to hold in place. Glue the flat leather trim around bottom edge of box and the front of the lid.
3Embellish with a Tassel: Wrap the Brown narrow leather cord around the 3 inch piece of cardboard 12 times. Slide off cardboard and glue a piece of the cord around the wrap to form a tassel. Cut the looped end of the tassel. Slide a 4 inch piece of cord through the top of the tassel and slide a Silver tube bead on to cord. Glue to the center of the box under the faux leather trim.
