or should I just stick with knitting.. Hi smittenheart, I haven't been on a plane in years, but I do understand about the way things are these days. I'm not sure what to say about the needles, but one thing that I can suggest, instead of scissors, I have a madalion that is a cutter which you hang from a chain. I use it to cut my quilting thread, but it will also cut floss. I can't remember the exact name that it is called, but I bought it in ACM by the floss & needles. Also, I read in a magazine that someone whom traveled on planes a lot used this cutter. It looks like jewelry, very nice & the lady said that the airlines didn't even know it was a cutter. Hope this helps.

When I flew in '04 I took my cross-stitch with me. I checked my scissors though so I'd have them on my way home since I wasn't flying home. One of my friends said that dental floss containers made a good device to cut floss. I would check out the FAA's website.

Okay, here's the scoop---I fly almost every week, I work in Jax, my hubby is in Atlanta taking care of his Mom. I ALWAYS have some sort of stitching with me. Needles are fine, as long as you have the other stuff-you know, fabric, thread, floss etc. Scissors--yes you can take scissors as long as they are small blunt school type scissors.Wal Mart carries a small pair of Fiskar scissors that are great and stay sharp. I flew to Ireland in July, had no trouble with any of my sewing stuff. I also have one of those medallion type things I keep on my keychain, just in case I lose my scissors (I usually carry 2 pair, in separate ziploc bags. Just don't try to carry on dressmaker shears or rotary cutters.

Here's a never-thought-about-it for you. I work for the court system, and we don't allow knitting needles in the courthouse, even for jurors. They can bring crochet hooks (there is a lot of down time for jury pools), but no knitting needles. They are considered a potential weapon.

Hi there, I'm a stitcher....no problem. Take your needles, scissors, whatever. Knitting needles are ok, too. Beginning with 9/11 you couldn't take scissors or needles. Rules have changed. You can always get a clover cutter instead of scissors if you are worried you'll have a problem. It's a blade inside of a clever cover. You can trim excess threads with them and cut thread. They are great. Guess I'd try www.clover.com. Some needlework stores carry them as well. Judy Asheville
