Okay, so now I need some info. I want to make a scarf and hat using the fun fur for my 7 y.o. g'daughter. But I have no idea how much to buy. The pattern I have is for an adult and calls for 6 skeins just for the scarf. It will be a simple stockinette stitch for the scarf with light blue and a white edging of about 2 inches of white on each end to match the hat. That will be a standard four needle watchman style hat in light blue with a matching foldup edge in white.

I have made upteen hats of this style for both adults and children. With and without the pom pom on top. And always with just leftover yarn. But this one is different. It is for a very special little girl that I just love to the utmost. She is going to be the next crafter in the family. I want the hat to be warm. We can have some really cold mornings while waiting for that school bus in the winter. So I am thinking of using two threads together. One, the fun fur and one an acrylic yarn in light blue for the body of the hat. And then just the white fun fur for the edging. Just how warm is the fun fur? Do I need to use both yarns for the scarf?

So does anyone who has worked with the eyelash yarn have any information they can pass on to me? HELP!!!

I made a scarf with fun fur and worsted acrylic, one skein of the fun fur wasn't enough to make a scarf worth any length. I think two would have worked.

I'm not sure how much help this will be for your specific items, but I can show you below what I've done with eyelash yarn.

The first is a scarf that I used the eyelash as a carrier yarn along with a bulky boucle. This was made with 1 strand of Lion Brand's Fun Fur and 1 strand of Lion Boucle held together throughout. The boucle yarn gave it warmth. The eyelash seems more for show, rather than warmth. Take note, the boucle shows through alot - the eyelash yarn literally looks just like long eyelashes. The eyelash added minimal bulk - so I used precisely what the scarf pattern called for with regards to the boucle and just ensured I had the same yardage of the eyelash.

The second is a scarf that I used Lion Brand's Tiffany yarn - which is an eyelash yarn very similar to Fun Fur. In this case, I held 3 strands of Tiffany yarn together to made this scarf. It is quite warm - maybe because it's 100% nylon and holds in the body heat. And 3 strands of the eyelash yarn were used, so I'm sure that helps with warmth. In this case, the eyelash yarn looks more like (and feels like) one of those really long-haired fluffy cats as opposed to just whispy eyelashes.

So I definitely agree with the 2 strands for the hat - 1 acrylic + 1 eyelash seems about right, then eyelash for the edging - but maybe 2 strands of eyelash. As far as the scarf, guess it depends upon the look you are going for. If you want it to feel like the long-haired cat, you might need 2 or 3 strands held together. If you want the eyelash to be more like whispy eyelashes, then I'd do what you are doing for the hat (acrylic + eyelash).

Thanks Naz. I will try to match the colors of the blue (acrylic plus eyelash) as close as possible for the scarf. And then use the acrylic for the top part and the eyelash for the edge on the hat. I want the set to be a fun set for her, but warmth in our New England winter weather is my first concern. This child has the biggest bluest eyes and light blond hair. So much girl. And I love her dearly. She is The Pirate's granddaughter and even he admits that she is his favorite out of his three g'kids.

She loves to do crafts and everytime I go to ACM, I try to pick up a small craft for her to do. I just wish she lived closer and I could teach her how to knit and crochet little things. Even to embroider. Her mother, after her brother is in bed for the night, will sit down with her and do small crafts with her. So she is off to a good start.

She loves to draw and paint. She is always sending me pictures that have a special place on my fridge.
