The Crafts Fair is being held at the Topsfield Fair grounds this weekend. My sister and I used to go all the time. The fair grounds are enormous so there is a lot to see. Anyone from Mass. going there? I wish I was.

And this week, the kids all over the city, are getting ready to go to kindergarten. They are given bright yellow T shirts and are marched throughout their neighborhood with signs that say, "We are going to kindergarten." All the people come out of their homes and applaud and give them encouragement. It is a fun day for the kids. At the end, they get to go to McDonald's for their lunch.

In the Fall there are a lot of activites in the neighborhood. Vacations are over and done with, kids are back to school, and there are all new plans for everyone.

So what is happening in your area?

What a fantastic tradition, Addie. Nothing quite so clever here. I wish I were closer...we could go to the craft fair together.

Nothing much going on in this neck of the woods...we've finally had some nice weather. Go figure, the end of August/beginning of September. We've had lots of rain this summer. Everyone I know lost their tomato plants from the blight. I'm not far from Saratoga NY...so this past month, everyone and their brother has been going to the track to bet the ponies and people watch. We plan on going to the Saratoga State Park this weekend for an old fashioned picnic. That should be nice. Next weekend we're making the trip to Hampton Beach for the Seafood Fest...yum :)

Rett, Every June (or maybe May) they have the lobster festival in Rockland, Maine. That is another one I would love to attend.

We had no Spring at all. And for the summer it has been mostly rain. So no real summer either. I hope the fall turns out to be better.

Being a native Topsfield girl, I heartily recommend the craft show... or anything else going on at the fairgrounds. (I wonder how many hours, as a teen, I worked at the church's concession stand?)

You're right, Addie. The Boston-area weather has been dreadful this summer. This past week *finally* starts to make up for it, and the kiddos have to go back to school!

I make clam chowda from scratch with live clams and salt pork. I don't do it to often because I then can't stop until the whole pot is gone. And I don't make it thick like the restaurants do. I like the creaminess of the clam liquor and fresh cream.

There's always something going on around here. We have Chowderfest and Pirate's Day both coming up. We also have a fun haunted hayride. I'm getting all my stuff ready for the Christmas Fairs.

That's right. I forgot that this is the time to get ready for Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course Christmas. September is definitely the time to start planning all the winter activities. No wonder I love the Fall. And I am hoping we get great foliage this year. We have an Oak tree on the sidewalk and a Maple across the street. They are both very old trees and and very full. They put on a fantastic show of color for us.

Someday, I am planning on collecting different Fall leaves in full color, drying and pressing them. Then I will place them between two 4x4 pieces of glass with a gold or silver strip around the edges to hold them together. They make great coasters. I made a set about 20 years ago for my daughter and she loved them. She still has one and she is the only one allowed to use it.

That's a great idea Addie. I love the colors of Fall also. I got married in the end of October and the leaves in my wedding pictures look absolutely georgeous. I'll scan some pictures and post them here.

Fall is my favorite season and you can't beat New England for the wonderful weather and beautiful colors. There's always a great autumn smell, too. And don't forget football!

The last few days here in Atlanta there have been some cooler days and mornings have almost been chilly. Hate to think of going back to work in Jax where it wont get really cool till December (if then). I head back for Labor Day weekend to do my job with the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon in Jax (my 34th year)this Sunday night and all day Monday. That's when I know Fall is on its way. Have started on some craft fair projects for our Churchs fest Dec 5 & 6. And have started on some Christmas gifts. Now I just need 40 hour days!!!!

It's true... autumn leaves smell *great*.

And so does moist earth, just after a rain shower.

Two of my favorites!!!

I saw that on the news. Try to stay dry and safe. We need you.

Addie you are sweet. We are not in any danger, just annoying where I am. When it is bad I stay home! It's funny b/c I know I have posted about it before. DH rigged a pump that sends most of the water out to the street to keep our garage from flooding. Well yesterday the "system" rebelled! The hose sprung a leak and every time the bucket filled to a certain level we had "old faithful"going off in the side yard!

I once lived in a basement studio apartment. There was a sump pump in the closet. I would really have to keep an eye on it when we got days of rain or melting snow. It was just so much fun having the hose run into the sink while trying to do dishes. I finally decided to run it into the bathroom and the shower stall. It really was a nuisance.

In my old house we had a leaky basement too. When we bought this house (with no basement, thankfully) it took me a good 5 months to realize that I didn't have to check if the pump was working right every time it rained.
