Many moons ago, right after G o d invented dirt, I decided I wanted to learn how to knit. But not a simple square. No, not me. I have to do everything the hard way. So my first project was a pair of four needle socks. My mother, whose feet were always cold due to childhood polio, wore those socks until the day she died. (They were so ugly. Bright red!) Then when I wanted to learn to crochet, I started out with a double ruffle 15 inch doily. My sister kept that on her dining room table for years. Faithfully starching and ironing it every time she washed it. Very fine thread, small hook. Again, nothing simple or easy. No, not me. Now I have done the stockinette stitch, the seed stitch, the garter stitch, cable, ribbing, etc.

So my g'grandaughter tells me she wants a furry scarf and matching hat. Okay. I will make them for you. Now I have never used the eyelash yarn. What could be so difficult about that? Well, let me tell you, that cast on and starter row dang near ended my knitting career. I now have two inches started on the scarf. Have two more inches to go on this end. Then have to repeat it on the other end. Then I have to repeat it for the hat. And that will be with the four needles. And if I still have my sanity after that is done, I intend to try to make a pair of mittens with a ribbed cuff using the eyelash yarn and the matching yarn combined. Two threads together. And once again, four needles.

I want to meet the person that called that yarn "Fun Fur!"

Excuse me while I go find a bow and arrow so I can shoot myself in the foot AGAIN!

Addie that is hysterical. I have a good friend that knits and she uses all kinds of fuzzy and chunky yarns. I learned some basic knitting years ago from my Mom, but I think I will just stick with my cross stitch and quilting with a bit of needlepoint thrown in for variety.

Oh my goodness. That's just the way I jump in with new things -- like teaching myself to wallpaper by doing the most complicated room in the house.

But she's going to love everything once you're done -- 'specially because YOU made it for her. angel

Take lots of deep breaths -- good luck!

first time I used fun fur it was to crochet a scarf for me ... of course it was Harley colors .. black/orange. well I used 1 skein 4 ply black, 1 skein black fun fur, 1 skein orange fun fur. Held all three together and crocheted a 6 inch wide by 3 1/2 ft long scarf using double crochet through out. I loved it, it was a little on the heavy side, but very warm. I lost it last winter .. it's either well hidden here, or someone stole it while I was at work. Oh well. I could always make another some day.

So anyhow, keep on working with it, you will get the hang of it .. oh yeah, a really bright room helps out a lot when working with that type of yarn. :)

Oh, I am poking away at it. I just want to get my hands on that first person who called it "Fun Fur." I will line him or her up against a wall, then pelt them with white bread soaked in milk. But first I will make them eat their last meal by sucking the food through a cooked piece of elbow macaroni. I do have a violent side to me. And "Fun Fur" has brought it out.

Makes me feel a little better about the 3 pairs of curtains I cut out *last* summer (as in '08) and still haven't sewn yet. (It doesn't help that the fabric is super slippery and a bear to run thru the machine.)

Addie, you are too funny! I have made one tube scarf with Fun Fur for myself using the smallest, round Knifty Knitter loom. It came out great and it was easy. I am now making another one for my friend for Christmas. I will post a picture when it's finished.

I will tell you one problem I had with the Fun Fur and it's kind of funny although, I was not laughing at the time. When I was making my tube scarf, our Boxer puppy got the yarn off the dining room table. It was a tangled up mess! It took me at least an hour to untangle it! Because it was Fun Fur and not regular yarn, it was quite a challenge to get it untangled!

I think Boxers are part kitty cat because my little, female Boxer loves yarn!

Good luck with your projects!

Boxers are playful. My son has one. The difficult part was the casting on and the first row. I am now sorry that I didn't do the scarf on four needles and make it a tube scarf. I am seriously considering ripping it all our and doing just that though. I think it will be warmer. I will make the hat and mittens with four needles though. I am thinking of doing the cuff and thumb in the fun fur on the mittens. I am not looking forward to the casting on and first row again. I don't have the problem with regular yarn. Just that dang FUN FUR!!!
