When I lived in Tacoma we had a plum tree right outside the window. As the plums ripened, my youngest son who was five at the time climbed the child friendly tree and would sit up there eating every plum he could reach. Needless to say, plums are what prunes are made from. Not knowing this, he just continued to pig out day after day 'til the tree stopped producing.
Then we moved on to a property that had a walnut, peach, pear, two apple, and another plum tree. As each season of a tree came into bloom, he feasted all summer and fall long. Every day was a day to get out there climbing those branches and eat. The cost of my food bill went down, but the need for and supply of toilet paper went really high. The down side to all of this abundant fruit was that when the over ripe fruit fell from the tree, it drew yellow jackets and bees. So I was out there every day picking it up.
Then at the end of the fruiting season, I was cooking a meal and my son turned his nose up at it. He informed me that I couldn't make food as good as the trees.
Oh, I did manage to gather some of the fruit myself. I made some jams and jellies for gifts. Now those he liked to put those on his toast. So it was almost as good as those trees made.
