This is the heading under crochet, and they talk about what they are working on and even post pictures. How fun is that!

You're RIGHT! Where is my head?? d'oh

I'm working on a sweater/jacket that is a VERY simple pattern and I'm using Lion Brand Homespun Windsor. It's what I work on when I'm in a group and I'm taking active part in conversation; my hands can keep on knitting while my mind is engaged.

I'm working on a ripple dishcloth which is really cool but which requires following a pattern and a beautiful lattice hearts dishcloth which is only knit and purl but VERY SPECIFIC knit and purl and requires detailed counting of each to produce the raised lattices and hearts ~ REALLY PRETTY and I'm doing it in Sugar 'n Cream Stripes Pinks.

I love to have several things going at one time. Don't know why! Maybe makes me feel like I'm learning more/accomplishing more???

Working on Lion Brand's free pattern for knit shrug. Using Homespun in Lemonade (my 2 yr old picked out the color for me). Finished the sleeves, now working on the collar part. (Also posted my crocheted socks in progress at the crochet forum.)

I'm making American Girl doll clothes. The outfits will be donated to a facility in California that houses abused children. Through donations from caring doll collectors, the girls have been given new American Girl dolls. The knitting patterns are my own designs. I've been making twin sets - short sleeve sweaters and matching cardigans and stocking hats (if I have enough yarn left).

I like knitting doll clothes. They are quick to finish! If anyone would like my knit-from-the-neck-down very easy doll cardigan pattern, please e-mail me privately at: JoanIWilson2@AOL.com.

Hugs,
Joan

Bump

I'm currently working on a ripple shawl and wrist warmers. I just finished a ribbed scarf yesterday. I've been a busy beaver lately when it's coming to my crafts.

My friend is probably going to be the one to choose my next project because she wants me to teach her how to knit and I figured the easiest way for both of us is if we work on the same pattern.

I am currently making a thin scarf using fun fur and light blue yarn with metallic thread that was given to me from a forum member. The scarf is done and I am presently doing the mittens. The cuffs are in white fun fur along with the thumb. Next will be the hat. The rim will be in the fun fur and the rest in the blue. When the set is done will do a pic before I send it off to my great granddaughter. The scarf is long enough so that she can wrap it around from the front, cross it in the back and let the two ends hang down in the front. She saw Hannah Montana wearing a scarf like that. What little seven year old doesn't love Hannah.

I love the blue yarn. It is the color of her eyes. And she has light blond hair.

I've just purchased all the supplies to start making up a few different beaded knit bracelets. I've been using size 000 metal needles and I purchased some bamboo to try. Anyone have any advice on this? Are there advantages to the bamboo vs the metal? I should take a few pics of the ones I've already completed and post them here. Most of you don't make it to the beading section and I'm not sure I've ever even posted a pic of my completed ones there.

Ah, ran outside before it got dark and snapped a quick pic...

I have about four different color combos I've put together for four different projects. We will be traveling the next two weekends so I'm hoping to work on them. happy

Love the knitted bracelet! You make a good point - I personally am guilty of hanging out too much in the knit/crochet groups. I need to stick my head in the other crafts, since I actually do more than just yarn stuff.

Anywho - those are some thin needles for sure! My advise with bamboo vs. metal - use bamboo needles when you have very slippery yarn/thread to work with. Bamboo needles aren't as slick and will hold on to slippery yarn better. (Ironically, bamboo yarn is actually very slippery). Use metal needles when you have rough yarn/thread. Metal needles are usually very smooth and slick. If you try to use metal needles with slippery yarn/thread - it's an uncontrollable mess. Everything is slip-sliding off the needle and you end up dropping stitches. And vice versa - if you try to use bamboo needles with rough yarn/thread (e.g. wool) - it's like scraping two sticks together - the friction will slow your work down and you'll have trouble getting things off the needle.

Now granted, some people still prefer bamboo/wood needles to metal because they feel warmer and lighter in the hands. Some people prefer metal all the time because they can knit much faster with them regardless of the yarn. And some wood needles are so highly polished, they are more slippery than metal. BTW, I've found acrylic needles (Susan Bates) to be similar to metal in that they are slick and slippery - but they also have the warm feeling of bamboo/other wood.

I have both metal and bamboo needles, I have to admit I absolutely adore my bamboo ones. My hands run cold so until the metal warms up it can be uncomfortable to knit. I haven't used wool yarn yet (mainly b/c even though I wear wool it's an irritant for me), so I'll bow to Naztazia on that one. You can have the slippery feel with bamboo as you do with metal depending on the material of the yarn. I'm so ready to get rid of my metal needles even though I only have two sets. lol.

I have found that with the metal needles, when my hands sweat, (and the yarn can make you hands sweat) the needles get sticky and I always have to stop and wash them. With the bamboo, this is never a problem.

THANK YOU for all the great information ladies. happy I use two different types of thread for this bracelet. One being silk and the other a more coarse thread with a piece of like tensel running through it. I'm going to give the bambo needles a try and see how that works out. I've made three of these style bracelets on the metal needles. Not much of a problem except that it's killer on the eyes working with such tiny needles and stitches. Dropping stitches is what I'm worried about and I feel the bambo may ease this worry a bit.

Thanks again!!! happy

I have a problem with this particular store. I went there specifically to get yarn they had in their flyer on sale. When I got there, lo and behold they weren't going to be getting that yarn in. I was really upset. I am disabled, my husband has cancer. We made a special trip to get this item. Why can't they have in all stores the items they have in their flyers. I don't think I'll ever go back there. I tried contacting the place but no go. I feel as if they don't care about the public. I am still upset. I know I probably shouldn't be posting here, but As I wanted yarn, I thought I could vent. bang head here
