Does anyone have a link to a pattern for a star applique? I'm making the flag afghan from Lion's website, but I don't like the stars - they're too spindly. I've tried about a dozen I found online, but don't like any of them on the afghan. I need one that's solid, not lacy, and pointy, not curvy tips. The yarn is chunky & soft, so the applique needs to be substantial as well. Not asking too much, am I ?!?!?!

Here's the afghan: (You might have to join the Lion site to see it, but it's free)

Thanks for any suggestions!

Last year I too was on the quest for a perfect crocheted star. Almost impossible to find. This is the one I ended up using:

I should mention the reason I needed a crocheted star was because my 3.5 yr old had the original TMX talking Elmo when she was 8 months old. She wore that poor thing out, so when they came out with a new talking Elmo Live, I got her that. The problem was the old Elmo had a big yellow star on his chest and the new one didn't. She constantly pointed that out to me. Needless to say the new Elmo ended up getting a crocheted yellow star for his chest too. The things we do for our offspring.

ps - I should also mention that picture isn't mine - it's from the website with the pattern.

Well, in the hour or so since I looked up Naz's suggestion, I made six stars, and they're PERFECT!!!
I also love the fact that the pattern uses the "wrong" side, something I never would have thought of, yet it looks so much prettier.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I can't wait to see your afghan. For so long I've wanted to crochet a flag blanket, just never got around to doing it.
