I kept seeing these on Ravelry and decided to make a few with the leftover cotton yarn I seem to have so much of. Easy as pie to do. They work great as a washcloth substitute in the shower. Here's the pattern: Spiral Scrubbie Pattern * * Edit 11/11/08: Go to page 2 of this thread for pictures on how to crochet and sew them.* *

Those are great! It's just like a poof thingy. I sent the pattern to my mom. maybe she can explain it to me. I can't read patterns yet.

Sooooooo pretty! Another thing I have to try ~ and much more stable and truly washable, unlike other shower washies.

Just printed the pattern and it couldn't be easier ~ wonderful project!
It falls into the category (for me) of things I can do "in company" ~ those things I can do without having to refer constantly to a pattern (I'm still a beginner, although coming along nicely) and can do and still socialize!
Simply wonderful!

I whipped up scrubby well enough, but can't follow the instructions to get it to form the round... help?

Is there a reason why cotton yarn shouldn't be used? I see the pattern calls for acrylic but I would love to do some matching dishcloths and scrubbies in sugar n creme or peaches n creme. Should I not use cotton for some reason? Are you happy with your cotton ones?

Whether you use cotton or acrylic - it doesn't matter. I think the key is that it's worsted weight (a #4 on the yarn label). I used the cotton in my pics because I'm using them in the shower and my skin only likes cotton. My yellow one was the sugar n cream and the pink and green ones were peaches n cream. I love them in cotton! In the first link I provided for the pattern - she writes that her crocheted pattern was: "Based on the translation of the Knitted Japanese Tawahsi." And when you click on that link on her website - Knitted Japanese Tawahsi - that knitted version happens to call for Sugar n Cream cotton yarn. I think cotton is definitely more absorbent.... and gives them more of a "scrubby" texture. Thanks for your response.

That's funny, I just printed this same pattern off a couple of weeks ago but haven't made one yet then I see yours here. I will be making it with 100% cotton for a dish scrubby to match dish cloths. They look great, thanks for sharing the picks.

I did one but I got stumbed by the time I got to connecting it together. I took it to someone who has been crocheting for awhile and she did not know how either. I ended up with a warpped looking square. I thought I was the only one who tried and could not do it.

Somewhere above, naz posted a tutorial on how to put it together. I printed it out and it looks like it explains it very well!
