Does anyone know a good theme for a quilt for someone who just bought a new house?

I remember this quilt I saw once where each square had a house in it. It looked like a fairly easy pattern and with all the colors in it, it was gorgeous. Maybe that would work...

Here's a pretty straight-forward block pattern:
http://quilting.about.com/od/blockofthemonth/ss/house_quilt.htm

And here's a more complicated one:

Here are some townhouses:
http://pbtex.com/html/rowhouses.html

And here's a funky one with variations for each month:

This one's in German but the pictures show some variations you might be able to figure out on your own:

"KellyJMF" thanks for posting those links. I love the townhouses. I have a friend moving to a townhouse soon that could use a cheer up. I think I'll make her a wallhanging for her new home.

Thanks KellyJMF! I like the ones from HGTV that have the different "seasons". What great ideas!

When we moved into our first home, my mother made a four seasons quilt. This was great because it had different colors in it, which match whatever color I decided to paint the room.

The log cabin block is one of the best starter blocks to do. Once you have your colors make you blocks and then you have a number of ways to lay them out in different designs. There are some wonderful book on log cabin blocks. Just google Log cabin quilt blocks or books and your are off and running.

My favorite site is
quilterscache.com/
Has hundreds plus block patterns from beginner to advanced. Each block has detailed instructions and measurements to ensure a perfect piece when completed. These are all free. I had my 4H group use this site when first beginning. Go under blocks galore or patterns galore. When you scroll down the page you will see it. Happy quilting.
