Is there a place online where I can find counted cross stitch patterns. I usually buy the little kits, but I would like to just buy the cloth and the floss and find my own patterns.

Try e-bay. Also there are a lot of good British c/s magazines out there for patterns. Otherwise AC sells cloth and thread.

you should check online to see if there is a local needlework shop (LNS) in your area. ebay is also excellent for finding the kind of patterns that interest you, you might also try some online needlework shops. my particular favorites are www.abcstitch.com and www.123stitch.comaside from the great uk mags there are a couple us mags that i adore. cross stitch and needlework magazine and just cross stitch are my top two. hope this helps.

Hi there! I have been doing cross stitch on and off since I was 12 year old. A great place to find patterns is by doing an online search for "free counted cross stitch patterns" but also check your local library! Many have a good selection of pattern books in their craft section. I also have gotten alot of patterns from library used book sales, yard sales, and church sales. What type of patterns do you want to do? I like doing children's stuff for my kids and cousins. I have even designed my own patterns as gifts. You can see some of the stuff I have made on my webshots: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/127220514wCXhNn:D Wendy

Search the Internet. I have found so many cute free patterns for just about everything! There are also sites that you can buy just the pattern. I am working on an Irish baby sampler now that I ordered from a company in Ireland. If you want to see it, email me and I can send you a picture..or can I post them here? I am new here and not sure of how this works. YOu can also not only type in the search free cross stitch patterns, but type in exactly what you are looking for...free cross stitch patttern baby sampler or celtic alphabet or wedding sampler etc. Type it in a few different ways and you sometimes get different results. If there is anything else I can do to help you, let me know :-)

There are tons of free xstitch patterns on the net. If there is a particular designer you are interested in, go to their website if they have one. Lots of designers offer freebie patterns that way.. Hope that helps, Amy :)

I co-own a cross-stitch group and maintain a huge list of freebie sites for my girls, but one of the best that I have found is http://www.vsccs.com/Sample%20Designs/SampleDesigns.html. They have a series of snowmen that I am considering stitching on individual squares and making it into a lap quilt. Some migh have mentioned this already, but you can Google free cross-stitch charts too. Hope this helps a bit. Sue P

Of course, AC moore is a place to purchase any cross stitch supplies. You can also locate free patterns online. Complete a search on Yahoo for Free cross stitch patterns. There are a number of sites that will come up. You can print the patterns at home. There are also several magazines that are published with loads of cross stitch information.

I have never had as much luck as the others here with finding patterns I like online, but I often pick up those soft cover pattern books they sell at A C Moore and other similar stores.(use your discount coupons!) I usually buy the ones that have small designs or motifs that I like and then I design my own project by combining them the way I want.
For example, I wanted to make a counted cross stitch ring bearer pillow for my daughter's wedding, and I couldn't find a design that I liked. I wanted a particular flower and I wanted to be able to personalize it with the names and date. So I just bought a few different booklets with small designs and I put together one that worked...everyone loved it when I gave it to her at her shower.
I also belong to a craft book club called Crafter's Choice. They have a lot of pattern books available. My library has very little in the way of patterns.

I usually by the soft cover books at AC Moore. Before I start a kit, I take the threads included in the kit and match them as close as possible to the DMC colors and make notes on the pattern of the corresponding colors. This way I can create the same or similar design again. When I finish with the kit, I keep the pattern in a notebook which I have sectioned according to type of designs...baby, wedding, kitchen, bath, etc. If you have a design in mind, use graph paper to create your own. Creativity is a gift. Give it a try. I bet you'll come up with some amazing ideas and creations. Good luck!!

I'm new to the whole cross stitching.. I'm a tad intimidated by a blank cloth lol. Where could I find kits that have the pattern printed on the cloth so I can just follow along to get started then work my way up to the counting kits?
