One of my cake students asked me about Cricut last week because I was talking about how I want the YuDu to make cupcakes for my aprons and I was gonna use the Cricut to make stencils...OK so it is a round about thing, so this week she said she was at a LSS and saw the Silhouette (she is in research mode) so today I looked it up...

Cakes,it really funny, cause I was just thinking about the YuDu last night. I have no place to store it right now, but hopefuly when the time comes & we move, I will have my own craft room again & I can get one. I was looking at it in ACM, but can't get it right now

I have Silhouette and a Cricut (and a Sizzix and Sidekick). I love both the Silhouette and Cricut. I've come to a realization: these diecut machines...the electronic and perhaps even the hard dies are only as good as the software that comes with them. Otherwise, they are basically all the same machine...cutting mats, cutting blades, pens, housing for the blades and so on. I love the fact that I can create my own designs with the Silhouette. I still love my Cricut for it's versatility regarding the software. Even the Sizzix is only as good as the dies that you purchase. If they're not sharp..they're not going to cut no matter what. The Silhouette is great and as soon as I can afford it; I want to get the Funtime software. The Graphtec that comes with the Silhouette and CraftRobo is ok..but not as good as Funtime which is made by SignMax and they also make their own die cut machines.

The advantage to the cricut has to be the lower cost for the consumables (blades and mats). The Silhouette is a good machine though.

So far there is SW for everything for the cricut and you can get into it pretty cheap. The best thing is if you needed new blades or mats you can run to Walmart in the middle of the night LOL

I have the silhouette and I love it, the best part is you can you and design you have in your computer from your computer. The soft wear that comes with it is also very easy to use. In fact my 14year old Daughter has really got into using it when we were making a welcome home sign for her brother who was returning home for a short visit for the military.

I don't own a cutting machine...and never had the desire to own one. I'm sorry I read this thread...because now,,,my interest has been peaked. You can design your own cut out? I'll going to have to look into the Silhouette.

Peace

Hi Rett, you can most definitely design your own image and cut it out. It is awesome. I love my Cricut, but boy this Silhouette is endless and only as limited as your imagination. You can even cut fabric on it. It's great if you're a quilter. I designed a little train engine last night. I want to tweak it some more. I also designed two pregant ladies. The first one I like the body shape, but her hair leaves something to be desired (lol). The second one is nice too. I am really having fun with it. And with the Silhouette, you can download their designs from a store linked to your Silhouette software. Having used AutoCad and LandCadd programs; I find the Graphtec software somewhat limited. I've played around with Funtime's demo and that is a nice drawing program. It costs about a hundred and I think it will work with the Silhouette.
