Help What does it mean in the instructions when it says stitched over 2 on 28 count count ,ivory linen?thank you

Have you ever stitched before? If you have used Aida cloth, 14 ct (14 squares to the inch) it will be about the same. But with linen, you actually count the number of individual threads in the cloth. It is VERY important to start on the grain of the fabric and stay on the grain in this type stitching. Start in between 2 threads, count over 2 threads, and up 2 threads before you put your needle back down, in a diagonal line. To make a single X, come back to your left 2 threads (this should line up 2 threads UP from where you came from the back of the fabric), Come up, count down 2 threads and over 2 threads, go down and you will complete an X. My vision isn't what it used to be, so I don't do linen anymore, but I do use alot of 14 or 16 count Aida. Hope this helps.

I need to learn counted cross stitch. I have always done just the stamped.

I had to teach myself after becoming manager of an arts & craft / needlework store. If you have done plastic canvas or needlepoint it is about the same, reading a grid type pattern. Just using floss instead of yarn, and not too many variations of stitches like the others.

I just found a site that has tutorials about cross stitch-- coats and clarks-- I was looking at the felted project Naz and Cr8 were discussing and happened to click on hand embroidery--and found a good spot for in there about cross stitch. Try it out.
