While we THANKFULLY did not have the flu this past week we did have a serious cold and I made sure my children and I were following basic "germ warfare" so here are a few tips for this upcoming cold & flu season... Make sure you are sneezing / coughing into your elbow not your hands. Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer and a small pack of tissues. WASH WASH WASH your hands often. Use a disinfectant spray or wipes on frequently used items like phones and door knobs. AVOID touching your eyes, nose or mouth during the day. If you have ANY of the following symptoms: fever greater than 100 degrees, cough, body aches, chills, sore throat, headache, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhea, STAY HOME. It is always a good rule to keep children out of school at least 24 hours following a fever.

I have found myself being much more conscious of handwashing now. My MIL gets sick so easily, and I have to keep reminding my BIL that he needs to wash hands. He seems to bring home every little bug that gets passed around. With her immunity system so low (especially since this last bout of seizures) we watch her closely. I have started using the Lysol antibacterial wipes and spray on everything, and last week, when I was having to change her depends and empty her bedside potty I was spraying and washing and wiping down everything. Germs are out there guys!!!

deeann, bless you for being such a caring daughter in law. i was a care taker for my dad, mom and uncle. I know how difficult it is.
Our child care license center has required us to give each of the parents a brochure on 'flu' symptoms and the care of the sick children. They had to sign a paper saying that they received the brochure. We are taking as many precautions as we can, its not easy keeping a child care ctr free of germs!!

I work with children so I'm always telling my students to wash their hands. They put hand sanitizing stations in my school too.

We received a notice today from the State that all child care centers and their employees will be able to receive a FREE swine shot. they will come with their medical teams on a specified date. This was scary to me. think of the expense of all this. There are over 200 child care centers in my city!!! It must be a whole lot worse than I thought.
