We have a friend on my dh's car forum who is in need of a little TLC. Actually the cookies and eatables she's been sharing with the other men and one other woman she works with and she bunks with 19 other women. Here's some info I pulled about her from her post on the hubby's forum... For those of you that don't know me, I'm a mechanic in the Army deployed to Afghanistan. I am on an extremely small camp with a small dfac, mwr gym but NO PX!! We don't have a px so snacks, lotion, body/ face wash, candy, magazines, towels, loofahs, trail mix, jerky, drink mix singles, cookies, razors, ect. Posters, calenders, model cars and anything else stang related (remember this young lady is from my hubby's car forum) would be nice. Old magazines are fine. They also like motorcycle, ufc, mma and fitness magazines. A couple of the soldiers said they like acrylic paints and canvas' if any of you have that kinda stuff laying around. I have female in my tent also would like crochet yarn and needle.
Here's a pic her of those she works with each day, but she bunks with 19 other women as I mention. She's standing up with the dark hair, 4th in line. I'm putting together a big huge box of all kinds of goodies. I plan on picking up a crochet needle and some yarn for her bunk mate. I have no idea about painting supplies because that's the one hobby I've never dwelled in. I thought about going to AC Moore with my 50% off coupon and seeing if I could pic up some type of kit that wasn't too cheesey. I'm also sending some girly products and personal hygiene items. Here's where the help me comes in. If any of you have some of the magazines mentioned laying around I'm sure this unit would surely enjoy them. If you have any arts and crafty items that your no longer interested in I'm sure someone over there would enjoy spending some of their down time in some crafty like enjoyment. If anyone is interested in sending over a little care package just pm me and I'll send you her address. Packages ship to a domestic APO address so NO overseas mail rates. Thanks ahead of time for any help any of you may be able to offer ~ Donia

I just return from a shopping trip and was able to pickup most of what I was looking for. I don't have any family in the services so I feel this is my effort to help out just a bit. Now to try to box this stuff up. I was planning on one big box. That's no going to happen. I think I'm going to keep the snacks, munchies, and candy seperate from the health/beauty supplies. Maybe I even need a seperate box for some of the craft items I purchased as well. Okay, off to try to pack some of this. I posted the above post on my glass forum as well as here. I've had four ladies step in to help my efforts. One of the ladies mentioned it in her office so now her office is gathering items as a whole. I just love how supportive the crafting community is. Maybe I should have posted this on the seperate areas of this forum.

N2B, I'm here. Just can't help out at this time. I remember when my hubby was over there. He looked forward to getting little things like honey buns and cereal. Every magazine was an old edition since it takes so long to make the trip. This is an amazing thing your trying to do.

This is an amazing thing your trying to do. I surely understand the timing. We've owned our own business for twenty years. We are still keeping it going but the hubby was offered a position with a big company here locally doing about the same thing right before the economy snapped. He decided to try it out and because of the economy is still with them and working our business one day a week. We had a good month and I felt the urge to do something with this situation since I have no family serving over there. The holidays are coming up here soon and I figured that will soon be weighing on these soldiers.

My boxes arrived there this morning. She snapped a pic and added it to the thread on the hubby's forum, but didn't have the time to open them. She mentioned that the guys like that I added a cartoon pic of the hubby's car on the boxes. Also added a pic of the forum's logo that someone used Photoshop to make it look like the center of the cars gas cap.

Tucked in one of those three boxes was a special handmade jewelry gift for Jen to share with the other ladies. She snapped a pic of them wearing my Salvation/Prayer bracelet...

Some of the care packages have been arriving, but Jen's been unable to keep me updated as often due to being very busy. Heard from her today... I have been rediculously busy and internet is up then down. I got 3 boxes yesterday from a Wendy Raleigh, NC. She sent some great stuff and even some perfumes The female mechanic snatched up the paints, brushes and some snacks and the other guys wiped the boxes clean. There were also 2 cross stitch things but no needles. lol. Also a package from Oracle USA? So many great things and I wish I had the time to write everyone of them. Thank you so much for everything!
Here's some pics... Jen's co-worker enjoying the yarn and crochet needles I sent... Another co-worker enjoying the premaid Smores snack...

FINALLY got a box mailed today. I hadn't been able to get to ACM for some crafts kits, but I picked up some jigsaw puzzles (smaller ones, I wasn't sure how much room they would have) and some Sodoku, Hide and Seek and Crossword puzzle books.
