Hi everyone! I have been beading about four years now and it is SO addictive. I love it. I have been playing with polymer clay to make focal beads but really want to learn how to make enamel or glass! Of course, finding the time to fit that in will be the trick!

Hi all! I'm a jewelry designer/artisan (primarily beads and wire) as well as a photographer. I'm in Syracuse, NY. I have my own website with the goal of using it as my exclusive storefront (I love etsy & iCraft and such, but the fees!). I've done some bead crochet, with both wire and crochet thread. There's nothing to it--just string on all the beads before you start, and pull each one down when you need to throw one in a stitch. I am a scrapper....but also started beading. I am looking for a good book or some how to info on working with Swarovski crystals. I have seen some great pieces and wish I could figure out the patterns. I have searched the web and also local bookstores and I'm having a hard time finding things specific to crystals. Any suggestions??

Any suggestions?? There are a couple of beading pattern books that deal with crystals only. I've seen them offered on the internet and on book racks at our local bead shops. There are also a few free patterns on many different beading sites on the internet. If I come across any of these, I'll post them for you on this thread.

And when I used the longer eyepins, I'd save the piece I'd cut off and re~use that on a bracelet link, but again, sometimes they weren't always the "exact" same size and that drove my prefectionist eye crazy sometimes... I got a catalog from Lewis & Company and they had some instructions, but for the most part, I just looked at a picture and sat there and counted and added up parts, and got it just by looking at it. Lot's of fun to do...

Beads + children = disaster! I would like to get back into it, though. I have sold some of my pieces at flea markets, and sold some to friends, coworkers, & family. I have a question that hopefully someone can answer: I found some shells on the beach recently that I would like to incorporate into some new designs. Obviously they are too fragile to add as-is. What can I do to them to make them more durable (I have seen natural elements somehow dipped in gold or silver...how do they do that?). Thanks in advance for your help!

Happily beading in Boston, MA. I've been beading since only "hippies" wore beads, but thankfully my techniques and styles have changed

Hi everyone, I live in Mercersburg, PA. I have been beading for a few years and love to wear my creations. I have taken two classes. I have a bit of a problem with the finishing off of my work, my wire comes out of the bead I hide it in due to the wire streching or the cinch bead allowing it to slip, not sure. It appears I am doing it right but I end up restring my work after a while. I create neckless, earring and bracelet sets.

There are many solutions to working with fine shells. I've taken the finer shells and glued them in a larger and sturdier clam shell. Drill a hole through the clam shell and you have an instant pendant. I also use to coat them in a very durable plastic spray coating you can find with other spray paints just about anywhere. I've seen this same method used but the smaller shells were placed in the larger clam shell and some sort of resin was poured in the shell to hold everything together in place.

You should try http://www.olrm.org/ they have an instructional video on how to make the wire Rosary. They have the eyepins, wire, and chain as well as any other needs you might have for Rosary supplies. I also get my supplies for the centers and Crucifix at http://www.avemariascircle.com/ Their quality for the centers and Crucifix is a bit better then Our Lady's. I get my chain and mission Rosary supplies from Our Lady. They are both reasonably priced and are extremely nice people. I am glad I am not the only one that can't get enough beads! I am so addicted. I love the beading books and magazines but I don't seem to be able to follow the directions since I am a very visual person and left handed as well! I tend to look at the pictures and design my own variation.

I think what you're looking for is the Instant Gold Kit at http://www.shophometrends.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_807006. I've never used it before, but let us know how it works. I'm really not sure how much strength it will give the shells. You might want to look into a harder metal (maybe bronze... assuming that it's sturdiness is why it's used to preserve baby's booties). I am not sure whether you would have to solder the dipped item to the chain or whether you could just dry it touching the chain to create the bond. Good Luck! And, thanks for your kind words!
