Project Instructions
-
1Turn the White t-shirt sized to fit the recipient inside out.
-
2To create the puffy sleeves, cut the extra large White shirt across the front, just under the armpit, and then down one side, so you have one long sheet of fabric. Run elastic through the shirt hem (since it is cut, it will be like an open tube) Gather the elastic together and glue along the edge of the shirt sleeve (remember the shirt is inside out!). Repeat for other arm. Turn shirt right side out.
-
3Glue on Fuchsia Glitter trim over the t-shirt sleeve hem.
-
4To create vest, cut Black t-shirt, cutting off sleeves, making the sleeve holes a little larger. Cut a deep scoop neck from t-shirt, so there is a 2 inch strip left between the neck and the arm holes. Cut the front of the shirt down the middle.
-
5Cut 12 strips of 5 inch long Black glitter trim. Criss cross from one side of vest to the other, starting at the bottom of the vest, creating 5 Xs, gluing a button on each trim end. For the skirt, use the biggest size Purple and Sapphire t-shirts possible so the skirt is fuller for the costume.
-
6Cut Purple shirt across, underneath the armpits, so you end up with a tube. Make a small cut in the back portion of the hem of the shirt. Run elastic through the hem. Pull together and knot elastic ends together; option: add a dab of hot glue over knot. Tip: place skirt on child before closing so that it is sized correctly. For the Sapphire portion of the skirt, repeat this paragraph of steps except tie the elastic for the Sapphire tube to the width of the bottom of the Purple skirt.
-
7Lay Purple skirt on work surface. Turn Sapphire tube inside out and slip it over the Purple skirt so that the elastic is against the bottom of the Purple skirt. Glue the elastic from the Sapphire tube to the bottom of the Purple skirt. When dry, turn the Sapphire portion back down, creating a gathered look. Glue Fuchsia glitter trim over the seam where the sections were glued together.
-
8Tie scarf around waist.
-
9To create sequin ribbon trim around the waist, knot each sequin on the thin Red ribbon; make long enough to it will go around the waist and tails are long in the front.
-
10To create a Wig, begin by cutting two strips from the foam board. One strip should be 4 inch x 8 inch, the second strip should be 20 inch x 8 inch.
-
11Wrap yarn around the 4 inch strip 20 times. Tie one side with a piece of yarn, and then cut the other side. Repeat this wrapping step three more times, ending with four sections of 4 inch for the bangs. With the remainder of the two skeins, you will repeat the wrapping step but use the 20 inch piece of foam board instead.
-
12Cut the brim of the painters cap off.
-
13Glue the 4 inch bangs across where the brim was cut off (approximately 2 inches from the edge of the cap). Continue to glue along the bottom of the cap with the 20 inch strands. You will now have the bangs and edges of the cap with the hair; you now need to fill in the scalp section.
-
14To fill in remaining portion of cap, glue 20 inch strands directly behind the bangs. Tip: use a 7 inch Styrofoam ball to keep the painters cap steady while gluing yarn to cap! Lay scarf over head with a knot to the side.
-
15Lay scarf over head with a knot to the side.
-
16For the Crystal Ball, spray adhesive inside each half of bubble ball. Remove spider from web and stretch pieces of webbing. Place webbing in to ball.
-
17When dry, pull excess webbing out so there is just a film of webbing stuck to the inside of ball. Glue halves shut.
