Project Instructions

  • 1
Prepare: Wash t-shirt without fabric softener. Do not dry. Cover work surface with plastic tablecloth. Lay damp shirt on covered work surface. Pinch shirt between thumb and forefinger, and twist into a spiral shape, continuing until entire shirt is twisted tightly into a flat spiral. You should end up with the t-shirt looking like a cinnamon roll that has five "pieces". Tie rubber bands from the kit around these "pieces" to secure their shape.
  • 2
Dye: Mix five of your favorite colors of dye according to package instructions. Lay damp, tied shirt on pastry cooling rack on top of covered work surface. Apply one color to one of the "pieces" of the shirt. Repeat for the other colors, using one piece per color. (We used Yellow, Red, Pink, Blue, and Green but you can choose any colors you want!) Let shirt set 6-8 hours. Note: Project time does not include this drying time.
  • 3
Finish: Rinse t-shirt fabric in water until water runs clear. Remove rubber bands and wash and dry following shirt instructions.
