Lion Brand® Heartland Basic Shrug
Don't let the name fool you: the Lion Brand® Heartland Basic Shrug will make your outfit anything but basic.
- Time:2+ hours
1Use a gauge of 15-1/2 sc + 22 rows (about 4 inch or 10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) to knit a shrug that is 38 inch x 39 inch (96-1/2 cm x 99 cm) before folding and seaming. Remember to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 inch (10 cm) square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if it takes you more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Download the full template for the pattern for this project.
2Stitch Explanation: Pattern Stitch K1, p1 Rib (worked over an even number of sts) Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of row. Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.
3Notes: A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
4Shrug Cast on 148 sts. Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 2 inch (5 cm) from beg. Change to St st (k on RS, p on WS) and work until piece measures 37 inch (94 cm) from beg. Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 39 inch (99 cm) from beg. Bind off.
5Finishing Fold piece in half, bringing cast-on and bound-off edges together, to measure 38 inch x 19-1/2 inch (96-1/2 cm x 49-1/2 cm). Place markers on each of the 19-1/2 inch (49-1/2 cm) sides, 7 inch (18 cm) below fold for armholes. Seam each side from marker down to lower edge. Weave in ends.
