Project Instructions

  • 1
Use a gauge of 16 sts + 22 rows to create a wreath that measures about 17 inch across. Save time, check your gauge. If the hook or needle listed under supplies does not work, use the needle or hook that allows you to obtain the required gauge. Download the template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere.
    Special stitches and abbreviations:
kfb (knit in front and back) = knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.
M1 (make 1) = an increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) = slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.
sk2p (slip-k2tog-pass slipped st over) = a double decrease worked as follows: insert right needle as if to knit, and slip the next st from the left needle to the right needle. Knit the next 2 sts together. With tip of left needle, lift the slipped st (the 2nd st on right needle) up and over the k2tog (first st on right needle) and off the needle – you have decreased 2 sts.
Yo (yarn over) = an increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the batting, worked as follows: Bring yarn to front, between the needles. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed. Notes:
Cut Batting to 53 inch x 82 inch. Then roll into a cylinder, then cover with a strip of St st (k on RS, p on WS) to make Wreath.
Owl is worked separately and then sewn to Wreath.
Leaves, acorns and other embellishments are made separately and then sewn to Wreath.

    Wreath:
With straight needles and Big Bend, cast on 46 sts. Work St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures about 53 inch from beg.
    Bind off.
  • 3
    Wreath Assembly:
Lay batting flat with a short side in front of you. Roll batting away from you into a cylinder. With sewing needle and thread, sew the free end of the batting to the cylinder. Bring ends of batting wreath together and, with sewing needle and thread, sew ends together to make a ring.
Seam the short ends of the Big Bend piece to make a ring. Wrap ring around batting wreath, then seam long sides of Big Bend piece together so that batting is completely enclosed.
