Lion Brand Heartland Pom Poms Lacework Hat
A sensationally soft hat!
- Time:4 hours
1Use a gauge of 15 sts + 22 rows (about 4 inch) to knit a hat that measures about 17-1/2 finished circumference and 11-1/2 inch finished height and will stretch to fit a range of sizes. Be sure to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches to make a 4 inch square, try using a smaller size needle; if it takes you more stitches, try a larger size needle.
Download template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere. Special stitches and abbreviations:
ssk (slip, slip, knit) = slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog 1 st decreased.
Yo (yarn over) = an increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows: bring yarn to front, between the needles. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.
M1 (make 1) = an increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop 1 st increased.
sk2p = slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over 2 sts decreased.
K2, p2 Rib (multiple of 4 sts + 2) = Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end of row. Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Rep Row 2 for K2, p2 Rib.
Note: Hat is worked flat and then seamed.
With Great Smoky Mountain, cast on 66 sts.
Work in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures about 1-1/2 inch from beg, end with a RS row. Note: End with a RS row means that the last row you work should be a RS row, and the next row that you are ready to work will be a WS row.
Row 1 (WS): With Acadia, p32, p2tog, p32 65 sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: K2, *k1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 3 and all WS rows: P to end of row.
Row 4: K4, *yo, k3; rep from * to last st, k1 85 sts.
Row 6: K2, k2tog, *yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, sk2p; rep from * to last 9 sts, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, ssk, k2 65 sts.
Row 8: K2, *k1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3, 65 sts.
