- Time:3 hours
1Use a gauge of 11 sts (about 4 inch) over K2, p2 rib to knit a hat that measures approximately 20-1/2 inch Finished Circumference and approximately 11-1/2 inch in Finished Height. Be sure to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches to match the gauge, try using a smaller size needle or hook; if it takes you more stitches, try a larger size needle or hook. skp (slip 1, knit 1, pass slip st over) = Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch 1 st decreased.
2With circular needle, cast on 56 sts.
Place marker for beg of rnd and join by knitting the first st on your left hand needle with the working yarn from your right hand needle. Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1 for K2, p2 rib until piece measures about 7-1/2 inch from beg.
Next rnd: Change to double pointed needles as follows: with needle 1, rib across 14 sts; with needle 2, rib across 14 sts; with needle 3, rib across 14 sts; with needle 4, rib across 14 sts.
Decrease Rnd: On needle 1, k1, skp, rib to end of needle; on needle 2, rib to last 5 sts, k2tog, rib to end of needle; on needle 3, work same as needle 1; on needle 4, work same as needle 2 you will have 52 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next Rnd: Work in rib as established around. Rep last 2 rnds twice more 44 sts.
Rep Decrease Rnd 6 times 20 sts (5 sts remain on each needle).
Divide sts onto 2 needles, with 10 sts from needles 1 and 2 on one needle and 10 sts from needles 3 and 4 on 2nd needle and bind off as follows: With RS together, hold the 2 needles in one hand. With a 3rd needle, knit tog 1 st from each needle, *knit tog 1 st from each needle, pass first st worked over 2nd st to bind off; rep from * across. Cut yarn and pull through last st to secure.
