Project Instructions

Use a gauge of 24 sts + 32 rows (about 4 inch) to knit a pullover that measures 20-1/2 (23-1/2, 24-1/2, 27-1/2, 28-1/2) inch in finished chest x 13-1/2 (14-1/2, 15-1/2, 16-1/2, 18-1/2) inch in finished length. This translates to roughly 1 year, 2 years, 4 years, 6 years and 8 years. Be sure to check your gauge. If it takes you less stitches to match the gauge, try using a smaller size needle or hook; if it takes you more stitches, try a larger size needle or hook.
Pattern and supplies are written for large size with changes for smaller size in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow a pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning. You will need 2 skeins of yarn to make this pullover in the 1 year and 2 years sizes (20-1/2 and 23-1/2 inch x 13-1/2 inch and 14-1/2 inch); 3 skeins of yarn to make this pullover in the 4 years and 6 years sizes (24-1/2 and 27-1/2 inch x 15-1/2 and 16-1/2 inch); and 4 skeins of yarn to make this pullover in the 8 years size (28-1/2 inch x 18-1/2 inch.

    Special stitches:
M1 (make 1) = An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop – 1 st increased.
K2, p2 Rib (worked over a multiple of 4 sts + 2 extra sts) = Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end of row. Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Rep Row 2 for K2, p2 Rib.
    Notes:
Pullover is worked in 4 pieces, Back, Front and 2 Sleeves.
Hood is worked from stitches picked up around neck edge of Pullover.
The Ears are worked separately and sewn to hood. The Ears are optional, Pullover can be made without them.
