- Time:2 hours
1Use a gauge of 14 sts + 24 rows (about 4 inch) over pattern to knit a hat that measures approximately 14 inch in finished circumference and about 11 inch in finished length that will stretch to fit a range of sizes. Save time, check your gauge. If the hook or needle listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge.
Download the template for abbreviations and stitches not explained elsewhere.
Note: When you see 12 sts in the instructions, this lets you know how many sts you will have at the end of that specific row.
2Cast on 72 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles, with 18 sts on each needle. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: *P3, k3; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1 until piece measures about 6 in. (15 cm) from beg.
Next Rnd: P1, p2tog, k3; rep from * around 60 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next 12 Rnds: P2, k3; rep from * around.
Next Rnd: *P2tog, k3; rep from * around 48 sts.
Next 6 Rnds: *P1, k3; rep from * around.
Next Rnd: *K2tog, k2; rep from * around 36 sts. Knit 3 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K2tog around 18 sts.
