Project Instructions

  • 1
Use a gauge of 15 sts + 24 rows (about 4 inch) in Seed st to knit a vest that measures for S (M, L, 1X, 2X/3X). This translates approximately to 38 (42, 47, 51, 58) inch in Finished Closed Bust and 26 (26, 27, 28, 28) inch in Finished Length. Save time, check your gauge. If the hook or needle listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge.
You will need 7 skeins of Sapphire to knit this vest in sizes S and M; 8 skeins of Sapphire to knit this vest in size L; 9 skeins of Sapphire to knit this vest in size 1X; and 10 skeins of Sapphire to knot this vest in size 2X/3X. Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. Download the template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere.
    Special stitches:
    Pattern Stitch:
Seed St (worked over an odd number of sts)
    Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2: K the purl sts and p the knit sts.
Rep Row 2 for Seed st.
    Notes:
Vest is worked in one piece beg at lower edge. Piece is divided at armholes and fronts and back worked separately to shoulders.
At shoulders, fronts and back are joined to work collar.
A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
When you see ‘work even’ in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.
