1Use a gauge of 16 sts + 22 rows (about 4 inch) over Texture pattern to knit a hat that measures approximately 20 inch and stretches to several sizes. Save time, check your gauge. If the hook or needle listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge.

yo (yarn over) = an increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows: Bring yarn to front, between the needles. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.
Texture Pattern (worked over an even number of sts) = Rnds 1-3: Knit. Rnd 4: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd. Rep Rnds 1-4 for Texture pattern.
K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds (over an even number of sts) = Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd. Rep Rnd 1 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds.
Notes: Hat is worked in rnds beg at lower edge. Top of Hat is shaped with a drawstring.
Stripe Sequence: *Work 4 rnds with Burgundy, 2 rnds with Brick, 2 rnds with Burgundy, 2 rnds with Radiant Orange, 2 rnds with Burgundy, 2 rnds with Beige, 2 rnds with Burgundy, 2 rnds with Pea Green, 2 rnds with Burgundy, 2 rnds with Dusty Green, 2 rnds with Burgundy, 2 rnds with Olive, 2 rnds with Burgundy, 2 rnds with Taupe, 2 rnds with Burgundy, 2 rnds with Espresso; rep from * for Stripe Sequence.
2With Burgundy, cast on 80 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds for 22 rnds.
With Burgundy and beg with Rnd 1, work in Texture pattern for 4 rnds.
With Brick, continue in Texture pattern for 2 rnds.
Continue in Texture pattern changing color following Stripe Sequence until piece measures about 8 inch from beg of Texture pattern, end with a Rnd 4 as the last rnd worked.
3Eyelets for Drawstring:
Next Rnd: Keeping to Stripe Sequence, *k3, k2tog, yo; rep from * around.
Next Rnd: Beg with Rnd 2 continue in Texture pattern, continuing to change color following Stripe Sequence until piece measures about 10 inch from beg of Texture pattern.
Cut a 45 inch length of each color yarn for a total of 9 strands. Hold all 9 strands together and tie an overhand knot about 2 inch from one end. Divide strands into 3 groups of 3 strands each and braid the groups for about 35 inch. Knot end of braid. Trim ends. Weave Drawstring through eyelets at top of Hat. Pull Drawstring to gather top of Hat and tie ends in a bow.
Weave in ends.
