Nicole Crafts Flower Bouquet
Present a keepsake bouquet of colorful flowers to your dancer after their recital, your rising star after their first piano concert or spelling bee, or perhaps just to remind your child how special they are! Or maybe, Dad, make these flowers with your kids and give them to Mom for her birthday, Valentine's Day or Mother's Day. Because these are made from crepe paper and pom poms, they don't need watering, so they'll last a long, long time.
- Level:5 + up (with adult)
- Time:less than 2 hours
1This project proves the power of teamwork! Kids can do the cutting, while adult helpers glue and assemble the flowers! Before starting, download and print project template for the flower(s) you are making. Cut shapes from crepe paper in the colors and quantities indicated on template. Make as many flowers as you want. Tip: When laying template on the crepe paper, make sure the grain of the crepe paper is in line with any arrows that may be on a template.
2Tulip: Cut slits along one of the long edges of the stamen from the template so it resembles fringe. Adhere the stamen around the top of a piece of wire with tacky glue. Push the end of the wire through the middle of the Canary Yellow center piece and fluff the fringe. Tacky glue in place. Use this same glue to adhere the three smaller petals from the template around the center. Tacky glue the larger petals around the smaller petals. Wrap floral tape around the wire starting under the flower. When you get about 4 inches down, wrap the leaf onto the stem.
3Anemone: Hot glue a 1/2 inch White pom pom to the top of one piece of cloth wire. Cut an inch by inch square piece of Canary Yellow crepe paper. Holding the cloth wire with pom pom upside down and use tacky glue to stick the piece of crepe paper to the pom pom. Twist crepe paper around the pom pom and cloth wire to cover the pom pom. Cut a piece of Canary Yellow crepe paper that is 9 inch x 1 inch. Cut slits along one of the long edges so that it resembles fringe. Tacky glue this around the bottom of the ball on the cloth wire. Then, tacky glue the petals from the template to the top of the cloth wire under the fringe. After you have laid one row of petals down, lay down another, offsetting the petals to create an overlapping look. Reach under the petals and wrap floral tape around the cloth wire. Place the leaf onto the wire a short distance down.
4Ranunculus: Hot glue a 1/2 inch White pom pom to the top of one piece of cloth wire. Hold the cloth wire with pom pom upside down and use tacky glue to stick the large Emerald petal from the template to the pom pom. Twist crepe paper around the pom pom and cloth wire to cover the pom pom. Take the small petals you made from the template and carefully stretch them across the middle so they resemble a cupped hand. Cut a small slit on one end with the grain and tacky glue one side of the slit over the other. Now carefully stretch the top of each petal. Tacky glue these petals to the top of the wire under the ball. Carefully stretch the centers of the larger petals from the template so they curve like a petal. Use tacky glue to adhere these under the smaller petals. Use tacky glue to adhere the small Emerald leaves from the template under the last petals. Adhere the large leaf from the template to the top of another piece of cloth wire with tacky glue. Wrap floral tape around the cloth wire under the flower and the leaf. Attach the flower and the leaf together about 3 inches down.
5Prepare Flowers for Presentation: When you are done making flowers, use wire cutters to trim the cloth wire to the length you want the flowers stem to be. Then, finish covering the cloth wire with floral tape. Gather the flowers together as desired for your bouquet, then wrap the bouquet in Green tissue paper. Add a ribbon bow for a beautiful finishing touch!
