Nicole Crafts Paper Medallions
Hooray for Red, White and Blue! (Or any colors for that matter.) A.C. Moore has thousands of kinds of cardstock and decorative paper for making medallions. Use a scoring board and paper punches for faster results! Once you see how easy they are to make, you'll make 'em for July 4th and other patriotic-themed parties, birthdays, showers -- EVERY special event and holiday!
- Time:less than 1 hour
1Prepare cardstock. Take the first two pieces of 12 inch x 12 inch cardstock. (If you want smaller medallions, cut the cardstock into smaller widths.) Place paper onto scoring board and make lines one inch apart. If you are using more than one piece of cardstock, and you can't score all the sheets together, score them separately then line them up equally before moving onto your medallion's border. Add a border(s) to your pieces of cardstock with desired paper punch(es) on the sides of the cardstock that are perpendicular to the scored lines. Then fold the cardstock so it resembles an accordion. Cut the folded cardstock in half so you have four 6 inch x 12 inch pieces. Connect pieces by applying tacky glue to the second inner panel from edge of one piece, and overlap another piece over the fold. Continue to connect all pieces so that the last piece connects to the first, creating the medallion.
2Make backing. Cut a circle half the size of the medallion out of a third kind of cardstock. Apply hot glue to the circle and attach to the center back of the medallion to keep its shape.
3Embellish. Cut a circle out of the fourth kind of cardstock to the size of your choice. Hot glue the circle to the front center of the medallion. Download and print project template. Trace and cut a star from the fifth kind of cardstock for the medallion. Tip: Make sure your star is smaller than the circle. Attach the star to the center of front circle with tacky glue. Another tip: The more medallions, the merrier! We've provided several different size stars on our template to help you out! If you want to have different colored medallions within the same one (such as the large Red and White one in the upper left hand corner of our picture), make a smaller medallion and tacky glue it on top of the larger medallion then add the smaller circle and star to the medallion's center.
