Project Instructions

  • 1
Project time does not include neither setting time for the glue nor drying time for the paint.
  • 2
Using sponge roller, paint Castle halfway up from bottom of crate. Paint White Adirondack from the middle of the crate to top. (Tip: give the crate a rustic look by not covering all the wood.)
  • 3
Remove screws from flat wood knobs. Turn crate upside down and glue one knob to each corner on bottom of crate. Allow glue to set.
  • 4
Place two of the burlap swatches back to back along the 18 inch edge of the crate. Glue one long edge together approximately 1/2 inch in from edge. Open pieces with smooth seam facing up. This is for the bottom, front and back of crate liner.
  • 5
Cut two 13 inch x 13 inch pieces of burlap from third swatch.
  • 6
Take the center of one side of one swatch and match it up with the seam of the crate liner. Lay over top of liner and glue together along end 1/2 inch in from end.
  • 7
Bring up liner and glue along sides of 13 inch piece. This creates one side of liner.
  • 8
Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other side of the liner.
  • 9
Place liner in crate. Fold ends over sides of crate. Trim ends even all around crate.
  • 10
Glue burlap ribbon to liner all the way around crate. This helps to keep liner in place and makes it easy to remove for cleaning.
  • 11
    Remove liner.
  • 12
Turn crate on side. Layout stencils centered on slats, spelling ONIONS and POTATOES. Tape one word at a time and fill in letters with pouncer and Dark Grey.
  • 13
Download and print project template. Print stars on Snowcap cardstock. Cut out stars. Stencil stars on slat and on sides of crate and fill in with Dark Grey.
  • 14
print stars on Snowcap cardstock. Cut out stars. Stencil stars on slat and on sides of crate and fill in with Dark Grey.
  • 15
Keep paintbrush wet as you apply antiquing medium over crate and knobs. (Tip: if antiquing medium is applied too thick, wipe it off.) Let dry.
  • 16
    Place liner back in crate.
