Plaid FolkArt Celebration Plate and Stemware
A great decoration for New Years and other special occasions!
- Time:2 hours
1Project time does not include drying time for the paint.
Remove price stickers and wash glassware in warm soapy water. Dry.
Wipe glass surface with rubbing alcohol.
3Plate Painting Instructions:
Note: the rim of the plate is painted on the back side of the plate in a reverse glass method. Everything that you see closest to you such as the stripes and dots will be painted first. The Licorice basecoat will be painted last.
Measure the plate into quarter sections.
Load the number 12 flat brush with Engine Red, paint four Engine Red stripes, one in each quarter section. Paint four more stripes next to the Engine Red allowing a small blank border between the remaining color stripes. Load the same brush one at a time and paint Calypso Sky, Pure Orange, Yellow Ochre and Purple Lilac stripes. Allow to dry.
Reapply colors until stripes are opaque.
Load the 1/4 inch detail painter with Engine Red and paint four to five dots in each quarter section. Using the same brush, continue painting additional polka dots using Calypso Sky, Pure Orange, Yellow Ochre and Purple Lilac. Allow to dry. Reapply paint until dots are opaque.
After dots and stripes are completely dry, load the 3/4 inch flat brush with Licorice. Paint over the dots and stripes around the rim. Allow to dry, and reapply if needed.
4Stem of Stemware:
Load the number 12 flat brush with Purple Lilac and paint a band around the stem. Allow to dry.
Continue painting stripes around the stem alternating Purple Lilac, Engine Red, Calypso Sky, Pure Orange and Yellow Ochre. Allow to dry and reapply if needed.
Load the number 2 liner brush with Licorice and paint black line between each color stripe. Allow to dry.
5Bowl of Stemware (Polka Dot Flowers):
Paint polka dots of each color around the outside of the glass using 1/4 inch detail painter. Note: do not paint designs within the top 1 inch of the glass rim. Reapply color and allow drying.
Load the number 2 iner brush with Licorice. Paint daisy petals around each polka dot. Add Licorice dots around the color center.
Still using the number 2 liner brush loaded with Licorice, personalize the stemware with desired sentiment.
Paint the base of the stemware the same as the rim of the plate. Paint the polka dots in a variety of colors first. When dry, basecoat paint Licorice over the dry polka dots.
To cure the paint follow either the Bake Method or the Air Dry Method.
Allow your piece to dry for one hour to be sure all layers of paint have dried. Place the piece in a cool oven. Set the oven temperature to 350ºF and bake for 30 minutes. Glass must heat gradually with the oven to avoid breakage. Do not place glass in a hot oven. After 30 minutes, turn the oven off. Let glass cool completely in oven. Do not use for 72 hours.
Air Dry Method:
Air Dry the project for 21 days before using.
Regardless of method used, food or beverages should not make contact with the painted design.
