Project Instructions

  • 1
Prepare area with newspaper or plastic sheeting to protect the area from spray paint. Read all directions for Rust-Oleum spray. It is best to work outside or in a well-ventilated area.
  • 2
In thin coats, use metallic gold spray paint to cover the hippo, making sure to get all sides. Allow to dry between each coat.
  • 3
Once the hippo has been completely covered with gold and dry, use painter's tape to section off one half of the body. Wrap the part of the body you do not want neon with newspaper and secure with more painter's tape.  Note: although this hippo has a Gold front and Neon Pink back, feel free to change it up, or make it all one color!
  • 4
Spray an even coating of White primer paint onto the uncovered portion of the hippo. Let dry.
  • 5
Then spray an even coating of neon paint onto the same uncovered portion of hippo. Let dry. Repeat with another 1-2 coats until desired color is achieved.
  • 6
Remove newspaper and tape and use your new décor piece as an accent on a coffee table or bookshelf!
