1Use a gauge of 32 sts x 24 rows (4 inch) in Cabled Pattern to knit a bonnet that measures 8 inch in length by 12 inch in width. Save time, check your gauge. If the hook or needle listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge. Download the template for abbreviations and stitches not explained elsewhere.
Special stitches and abbreviations:
Cabled pattern (multiple of 8 sts + 6) =
Row 1 (RS): * C6B, p2; rep from * to last 6 sts, end C6B.
Row 2 and all WS rows: * P6, k2; rep from * to last 6 sts, end k6.
Rows 3, 5: * K6, p2; rep from * to last 6 sts, end k6.
Row 6: * P6, k2; rep from * to last 6 sts, end k6.
Rep Rows 1-6 for patt.
C6B = Cable 6 back. Slip 3 sts to cable needle, hold cable needle to back of work, knit next three sts from left hand needle, knit 3 sts from cable needle.
2Cast on 110 sts.
Row 1: * K2, p2; rep from * to last 2 sts, end k2.
Row 2: * P2, k2; rep from * to last 2 sts, end p2.
Rep rows 1-2; 2 more times. Begin working in Cabled Pattern until hat measurs 8 inch from Cast-on edge, ending after row 6. Bind off all sts.
With crochet hook, sl st to join just above ribbing at edge on left side. Chain 5. Sl st to join in the same place as first sl st. Fasten off.
Fold Bonnet in half and sew Bind-off edge to itself. Sew button to the right of the bonnet, just above ribbing. Weave in ends.
