Premier Yarns Knit for Kids Checkerboard Baby Blanket

Use a gauge of 16 sts x 30 rows (4" in garter st) to knit a blanket that measures approximately 26" wide by 38" in length. Be sure to check your gauge. If it takes you fewer stitches to match the gauge, try using a smaller size needle; if it takes you more stitches, try a larger size needle.

Project Instructions

    Note: To avoid additional ends to weave in during finishing, do not cut yarn between stripes. Instead, carry yarn along the edge of squares.

    Blanket: Square (make 24)
    With B, cast on 24 sts.
    Rows 1-2: With B, knit.
    Rows 3-4: With A, knit.
    Rep Rows 1-4 ten more times – 44 rows.

    Finishing: Using tapestry needle, sew squares into 4 strips, 6 squares in each strip, alternating the direction of the stripes so that the stripes in each square and strip are perpendicular to the stripes of the adjacent square and strip using photo as a guide.
    With circular needle and A, pick up 138 sts on long side of blanket.
    Knit 7 rows. Bind off.
    Rep for opposite side of blanket.
    With circular needle and A, pick up 100 sts on short side of blanket.
    Knit 7 rows. Bind off.
    Rep for opposite side of blanket. Weave in ends.
