Project Instructions

    Use a gauge of 16 sts and 8 rows (about 4 inch) in hdc to crochet a cap that measures approximately 17-1/2 (20, 22-1/2) inch in brim circumference and 7 inch to top of crown. Save time, check your gauge. If the needle or hook listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge.

    Special stitch: [dc, tr, tog] = Yo, insert hook into next st and pull loop through, yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops rem on hook), yo twice, insert hook into next st and pull loop through, yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops rem on hook), yo, insert hook into next st and pull loop through, yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 4 loops on hook.
    Notes:
    The hat is worked flat, then finished with a seam crown from crown to brim.
    Instructions are written for small size with instructions for two slightly larger sizes in parantheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow a pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning.

    Row 1 (WS): Work 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, * dc in next 4 chs, sk 2, dc in next 4 chs, 3 dc in next ch; rep from *, end with 2 dc in last ch— 78 (89, 100) sts.
    Row 2: With Turquoise, ch 3, 2 dc in in first dc, * dc in next 4 chs, sk 2, dc in next 4 chs, 3 dc in next dc; rep from *,end with 2 dc in top of turning ch.
    Row 3: With Lime, rep Row 2.
    Rows 4 & 5: Rep Rows 2 and 3.

    Row 6: With Turquoise, ch 1, * sl 1, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 1, [dc, tr, dc] tog, dc 1, hdc 1, sc 1, sl 1; rep from * to last st, sl 1 – 64 (73, 82) sts rem.
    Rows 7-9: Ch 2, hdc in each st to end.
    Row 10: Ch 2, * hdc2tog, hdc 7; rep from * to end, hdc in top of turning ch – 57 (65, 73) sts rem.
    Row 11: Ch 2, * hdc 6, hdc2tog, rep from * to end, hdc in top of turning ch—50 (57, 64) sts rem.
    Row 12: Ch 2, * hdc2tog, hdc 5; rep from * to end, hdc in top of turning ch – 43 (49, 55) sts rem.

    Cut yarn, leaving a 10 inch tail.
    Using tapestry needle, sew hat closed, creating seam from last row to edge of brim.
    Weave in all ends.
