Project Instructions

    Use a gauge of 21 sts and 12 rows in dc with double strand of thread and E hook to crochet a flag that measures 9 inch x 14-1/2 inch (18 inch x 28-1/2 inch; 22-1/2 inch x 35-3/4 inch and 27 inch x 43 inch). Save time, check your gauge. If the hook listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge. Download template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere. Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. You will need 2 skeins of Victory Red to make this flag in the smallest size; 2 skeins of Victory Red to make this flag in the medium size; 4 skeins of Victory Red to make this flag in the large size and 4 skeins of Victory Red to make this flag in the extra-large size. You will need 2 skeins of White to make this flag in the smallest size; 2 skeins of White to make this flag in the medium size; 2 skeins of White to make this flag in the large size and 4 skeins of White to make this flag in the extra-large size. You will need 2 skeins of Dark Royal to make this flag in the smallest size; 2 skeins of Dark Royal to make this flag in the medium size; 2 skeins of Dark Royal to make this flag in the large size and 4 skeins to make this flag in the extra-large size. For the smallest size flag, you will need a 1.5 mm (7) size crochet hook; for all other flag sizes you will need a 2.75 mm (C2) and 3.5 mm (E4) size crochet hook.

    Flag: With E hook and double strand of Victory Red ch 77 (152, 190, 228). Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 75 (150, 188, 226) sts. Row 2: Ch 3, skip first dc, dc in each dc across and in top of ch-3; turn.

    Repeat Row 2 working 0 (2, 3, 4) more rows with Victory Red, then 2 (4, 5, 6) rows White, [2 (4, 5, 6) rows Victory Red, 2 (4, 5, 6) rows White] twice – 6 stripes.

    Band: Row 1: With C hook, attach double strand of White at upper left corner of Dark Royal section; ch 1, work 2 sc in each row end across the short side of the flag; turn. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Work 1 (3, 5, 7) more sc rows. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Fasten off. Weave in ends. Star should measure approximately 3/8 (5/8) inch across. Large Size only: Rnd 1: With C hook and double strand of White, ch 2; 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with a slip st to first sc. Rnd 2: [Ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook, slip st in next sc] 5 times – 5 points. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Star should measure 7/8 inch across. Extra-large Size only: Rnd 1: With C hook and double strand of White, ch 2; 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with a slip st to first sc. Rnd 2: [Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, skip next sc, slip st in next sc] 5 times – 5 points. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Star should measure 1-1/8 inch across.
