Project Instructions

  • 1
Draw a USA pattern, or find one online, enlarge to desired size, and print it out.
  • 2
Cut a piece of freezer paper wide enough to fit the pattern with approximately 3” borders around letters. Then, trace the pattern in the center of the freezer paper with a pencil. Cut out the tracing to create a stencil.
  • 3
Position freezer paper on the tee (shiny side down) and iron on, making sure edges are well sealed.
  • 4
Place a piece of cardboard between the layers of tee. Then, beginning from the letter “U”, squiggle horizontal lines of Bright Red (does not need to be solid lines), add horizontal lines of White from the “U” and into the “S”, and then add Blue lines going into the A.
  • 5
Using the flat side of the palette knife, moving horizontally, gently press colors into each other moving across. Clean palette knife with each usage.
  • 6
Using the sharp edge of the palette knife, run several random lines across the USA and let dry.
  • 7
    Remove freezer paper stencil.

To care for your t-shirt (or any fabric you've decorated with fabric paint), wait 72 hours before washing it for the first time. Turn shirt inside out. Wash in warm water, gentle cycle with mild soap; line dry. Clean up with soap and water. Do not dry clean.
