Project Instructions

  • 1
Start by laying the wreath form on a flat surface and separate the white branches so that you end up with several open Vs.
  • 2
Gather the beginning of the Deco Mesh roll leaving about 3 inch tail. Place the gathered portion flat between one of the Vs formed by the white branches. Twist branches together to secure mesh.
  • 3
Gather another length of Deco Mesh about 10 inches down the roll. Create a loop and secure it, where gathered, ON TOP of the section that is already anchored. This will hide the raw end of the mesh.
  • 4
Once secure, gather another section of mesh about 10 inches in length and anchor between the next V. Twist the branches tightly together, leaving ends upright and facing you.
  • 5
Continue the process until the inner circle of the wreath form is filled with mesh loops. (Note how branches are still up and visible at this time)
  • 6
Bring the Deco Mesh to the outer ring and secure the first mesh loop in the V closest to where the last loop was fastened on the inner ring. Twist ends tightly to anchor.
  • 7
Continue working around the outer ring in the same manner until all Vs have been used.
  • 8
With all of the branches now holding loops of Deco Mesh, bring the mesh to the inner ring. Form a loop, and secure on top of a section that is already anchored (preferably a section that is diagonal to it). This will help to fill in holes on the wreath form.
  • 9
Continue making loops and secure them, rotating between the inner and outer rings of the form. You will use an entire roll of Deco Mesh to make one wreath. Once you reach the end of the roll, bend all of the wire branches to the back of the wreath pulling tightly as you go. Fluff the mesh if necessary. Don't worry if some of the branch section is still visible.
  • 10
To create the Mom wreath decoration, cut dowel in half. Turn MOM letters over so the back is facing up. Place a bead of hot glue along the top of the letters and place dowel. Repeat for bottom. Make sure that the letters are snug together with just a small amount of space between them. This will result in enough of the ends of the dowels sticking out.
  • 11
Use the wreath form ties to tie down dowels ends so that MOM will be in the center of the wreath. Glue butterfly and flowers with hot glue around wreath.
  • 12
Option: Adding Mesh Tubing (you would do this before adding MOM decoration) 3 colors of mesh tubing are used. You may use 1 or 2 colors if you prefer, but no more than 3. Gather ends of tubing together leaving about 2 inches at bottom. Working with all three colors at the same time, bring remaining tubing over forming a 5-6 inch loop. Pinch in place.
  • 13
Create a set of loops on the other end the same length as the first set. Repeat this process once more on each side of the center. With three colors of tubing used at once this will produce 12 loops total (6 on each end). If using 1 color, you will loop tubing back and forth until you have 6 loops on each end. For 2 colors, you will loop back and forth 3 times. Wrap a chenille stem around center and twist tightly.
  • 14
Secure the loops of tubing in between the Deco Mesh loops on the wreath form using the chenille stem. This should hide the spots where the white branch sections may still be visible. Continue adding loops of tubing around circumference of wreath as desired. Add a Deco Mesh bow and...Voila!!
  • 15
Tip: Don't fight it! Deco Mesh is not wired. It is a nylon coated thread so it will not hold its shape on its own - it will do what it wants, so don't force it. Perfectly replicated loops on wreaths and arches will not happen...you have to learn to accept the imperfect look which, due to the nature of what Deco Mesh is designed to do, does end up actually looking perfect!
  • 16
Tip: When making loops for wreaths...loops that are too small will look too compact and squished while loops that are too big will look too "airy" and will use up too much mesh to make a design look full and finished. Using 10-12 inches of mesh between loops is more than adequate but should be determined by the size of the base being used.
  • 17
Tip: Leave the mesh on the roll and just rotate the wreath form until all of the mesh is used. No need to cut at all!
