Project Instructions

  • 1
Before you get started, take note of the following: Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces; good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4” (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use.  Baking should be completed by an adult.
  • 2
Using your hands, roll out one ounce of Sculpey III Yellow into a log about 3 inches long.
  • 3
Pinch up along the length of the log to form a triangle shape. Smooth the sides of the log with your fingers to remove fingerprints and rough spots.
  • 4
Using the pasta machine, roll out one ounce of Sculpey III White on the thickest setting. Set the sheet of White clay on your work surface. Place the Yellow triangle log on the White sheet of clay. Use a clay blade to trim away the excess White clay.
  • 5
Reduce the triangle log by pinching and stretching it until it is about 11 inches long. Use the clay blade to cut the log into four equal pieces.
  • 6
Place the triangle logs together with the white strips on the right side to form a half circle.
  • 7
Use the clay blade to cut the new half circle log in half. Put the two halves together so they form a round lemon cane. Gently roll the cane on your work surface to make sure all the pieces seal together tightly.
  • 8
Using the pasta machine, roll out the remaining White clay on a medium setting. Wrap the White clay around the lemon cane and trim the edges.
  • 9
Mix the left over White clay with an equal part of Yellow to make a Light Yellow color. Roll out the Light Yellow clay through the pasta machine on the thickest setting. Wrap the lemon cane with the Light Yellow clay and trim the edges. Roll the cane on your work surface to smooth.
  • 10
Using the clay blade, cut off 3/4 inch piece from each end of your lemon cane.
  • 11
Lay the cane slice down flat on your work surface. Gently pinch up around the sides of the cane, rotating it as you do, to enclose one end of the lemon cane completely. Once you have pinched the end to a point, use your fingers to round the point like the end of a lemon.
  • 12
Gently push the end of a pencil into the side of the lemon. While the lemon is on the pencil, use the toothpick to texture the peel of the lemon with little indentations.
  • 13
Remove the pencil and bake the lemon topper as directed above. When the topper is completely cool, place it back on the pencil.
