Project Instructions

  • 1
Allow paint to dry between applications. Project time does not include this drying time.
  • 2
Cut a piece of burlap and lay on foam plate. Thoroughly saturate with Mod Podge and hang to dry.
  • 3
Cut two 1-1/2 inch Styrofoam balls in half and paint Medium Yellow. Cut a small piece of 3 inch Styrofoam ball off to create a flat side. Paint Calypso Sky, Pink and Yellow Citron as shown. Let dry.
  • 4
Paint varying width of Pink, Medium Yellow, Yellow Citron stripes on the two 4 inch clay pots. Paint Medium Yellow, Calypso Sky and Pink sections on the 3 inch pot. Using liner brush, paint two lines on bottom of 3 inch pot in Licorice for nostrils.
  • 5
Paint the base of the 2-1/4 inch pots Calypso Sky. Paint the rims of these pots Yellow Citron.
  • 6
Paint the base of eight 1-1/2 inch pots Calypso Sky. Paint the base of the remaining four 1-1/2 inch pots Pink. Paint the rims of the eight Calypso Sky pots, Yellow Citron. Paint the rims of the four Pink pots, Licorice.
  • 7
Cut another length of burlap approximately 7 inch x 4 inch. Remove strands along length until you have at least 1/2 inch left. Roll into a tube and glue end that is not frayed into bottom of one of the 4-1/2 inch pots. This will be the back end of your donkey.
  • 8
Glue two largest pots together top to top.
  • 9
Glue twelve smallest pots together as shown to create the donkey's legs. Cut 1-1/2 inch Styrofoam balls in half. Glue small ball halves to ends of body, then glue legs to balls.
  • 10
Glue 3 inch Styrofoam head into pot with nose. Then glue to 2 inch pot as shown. Glue 2 inch pot to body, propping head up until glue is dry.
  • 11
Use spouncers to create eyes in Wicker White and Licorice.
  • 12
Cut two long tapered shapes from stiffened burlap and glue to back of head for ears.
  • 13
Tip: keep a piece of sandpaper handy in case you need to "trim" some of the Styrofoam being used.
