Project Instructions

  • 1
Choose a coordinating solid & print design from Duck Tape line. For sample shown: Electric Blue with Zebra, & Midnight Madness with Leopard.
  • 2
To determine apron size, decide where you want to tie it (at the waist or hips) & how long (above knees, at knees, or past knees). For sample shown: 15 inch width & 15 inch length (at knees).
  • 3
Create Duck Tape fabric by cutting or ripping lengths of tape approximate to desired height.
  • 4
When desired height is reached, switch to accent Duck Tape for the other side. The opposite side that is referenced is really the side that is going to be placed on the sticky side facing up, which will be Midnight Madness with Leopard. (Leopard tape is at the top.) Overlap the accent tape for an additional 4 inches or more.
  • 5
When you've reached top, tear & place tape face down on top of tape you have already put down. Starting at the top, place accent color for Blue Side (Zebra) for 4 inches, then switch to Midnight Madness (Black). Continue until all sticky side up tape is covered. Cut raw edges from both sides of fabric to desired width with craft knife.
  • 6
Ruffled bottom trim: Tear off strip of accent tape about 1½ times longer than width of apron (if width is 14 inches, tear strip 21inches long). Place sticky side up & lay the same length of other accent tape down on top of it. Trim off any exposed sticky part.
  • 7
Cut length of solid color tape about 1-2 inches longer than width (if width is 14 inch, tear strip 15 inch-16 inch long). Lay tape sticky side up, anchoring it on work surface with tape.
  • 8
To create ruffles, have accent tape matching solid tape facing down (in sample, Electric Blue is facing down, so have Zebra ruffle face down). Take double-sided length from middle & lay it about ½ inches onto the anchored piece of tape, making little folds (ruffles) as you go until you reach the end. If you fold too much & don't make it to the end, just pull it up & adjust. Repeat with other half.
  • 9
Lay down matching solid tape that coordinates with ruffle facing up over ruffle, again, about ½ inches. Hold down ruffles as you go. Attach finished ruffle trim to the bottom of apron, making sure to match to correct side. Trim edges of ruffles to be even with sides of apron.
