Project Instructions

  • 1
Note: the colors, prints and sheets of Duck Tape listed under the instructions and supplies is only a guide. Feel free to use a Duck Tape color or print or sheet that better matches your style!
  • 2
For the body of the tote bag, create a piece of Prarie Patchwork Duck Tape fabric that measures 12 inch wide and 13 inch long. To make Duck Tape fabric, lay a strip of Duck Tape, sticky side up, on your cutting board. Lay the next strip so it slightly overlaps the other. Continue until you have a piece that measures 12 inch wide and 13 inch long. Take it and turn it sideways so the strips are going left to right. Lay the next strips, sticky side down, going up and down so it is laying the opposite direction. Trim off any excess.
  • 3
Using scissors, round off the bottom edges of the piece of Duck Tape fabric from step 2.
  • 4
Repeat steps 2-3 to create the other side of the tote bag.
  • 5
Using small pieces of Duck Tape along the sides, tape the 2 pieces of Duck Tape fabric together. Keep the top open.
  • 6
To create the flap for the tote bag, make a piece of Funky Flamingo Duck Tape fabric that measures 12 inch wide and 7 inch long and add a strip of color Duck Tape to the bottom for the beak. Instructions for making Duck Tape fabric are in step 2.
  • 7
Cut into a triangle so that the color Duck Tape strip is at the bottom point of the triangle to form the beak.
  • 8
Attach the flap to tote bag. Add a hook and loop fastener to the backside of your flap and where it meets the front of the bag to secure it down if desired.
  • 9
To create the feet make a piece of Blaze Orange Duck Tape fabric that is 1 strip wide and 5-1/2 inch long. Instructions for making Duck Tape fabric are in step 2.
  • 10
Draw and cut out 2 feet onto the Duck Tape fabric.
  • 11
For the wings, lay out 2 strips of Duck Tape that slightly overlap. You can place these on wax paper if desired.
  • 12
Draw and cut out your wing on the strips you made in step 11.
  • 13
Repeat steps 11-12 to make a second wing.
  • 14
To make the layers for your eyes, draw 3 shapes on the back of Duck Tape Sheets. Make an oval that is 6 inch long and 4-1/2 inch wide on Electric Blue, a circle that is 4 inch in diameter that is Winking White and another that is 2-1/2 inch in diameter on Midnight Madness.
  • 15
Place your larger circle on top of the oval shape.
  • 16
Place the smallest circle on the top of your piece from step 14. You can add a tinier circle in the corner if desired.
  • 17
Repeat steps 14-16 for the second eye.
  • 18
Attach the eyes, wings and feet to the bag you created in step 5.
  • 19
Attach a strap to your tote bag using a double-sided strip of Duck Tape or create your own unique handle!
