Project Instructions

  • 1
Wrap straw wreath with 4 inch mesh ribbon, securing both ends to wreath with floral pins.
  • 2
Attach end of 21 inch mesh ribbon roll to outer edge of wreath form using floral pins. Continue bunching and pinning mesh to wreath along the outer edge, follow with a second row to fill it out. (This should use the entire 21 inch roll.)
  • 3
Stick 2 black adhesive-backed felt sheets together. Then use the wing template to cut this piece into the wings for your bat.
  • 4
Cut a 9 inch x 9 inch inch square from 2 of the remaining sheets of black felt. Adhere the 2 squares, and then cut this piece diagonally. These pieces will be the bat’s ears. Curl both acute corners of one of the triangles inward and hot glue one side over the other. Repeat for other triangle. (Save the 3 inch x 9 inch scraps from this step for the eyes, nose and tail.)
  • 5
Take 15- 6 inch floral picks, and wire them together in groups of 3. This will give you 5 super picks, set them aside.
  • 6
Cut the remaining sheet of black felt into 4 equal 4 ½ inch x 6 inch pieces. Take the backing off of 2 of these and lay them adhesive side up. Hot glue a super pick to the middle of one of these pieces, making sure to have about 3 inch of pick sticking out the bottom. Line up the other piece of felt on top and press them together. Use the foot template to cut this piece into a foot shape. Repeat to make the other foot.
  • 7
Cut one of the 3 inch x 9 inch scraps from step 4 in half. Peel off the backing from these pieces, add hot glue and a super pick. Stick the felt together and trim into a tail shape.
  • 8
Glue a super pick to the back of each bat wing.
  • 9
Use the remaining scrap of black felt from step 4 to make the nose and pupils for your bat.
  • 10
Use the template and the sheet of white felt to cut eyes and teeth.
  • 11
Cut irises for your bat from the fuchsia felt sheet.
  • 12
Use hot glue to join the layers of felt to your bat wreath. (Important: use a low-temp glue gun, or the mesh will melt)
  • 13
Glue around the bottom edge of each ear and nestle them between bunches of mesh on either side of the face.
  • 14
Stick the wings, tail and legs into the wreath.
  • 15
Tie a pipe cleaner to the wreath under the tail so your bat can hang upside down.
