Project Instructions

  • 1
Remove the jump ring from each chain. Join the two chains end-to-end by opening the end pair of links on one chain and attaching to the other, to form one, continuous chain. (Save the jump rings; you need them later.)
  • 2
Cut two lengths of raffia, each about 2-1/2 yards in length. Lay the raffia and long chain together, and braid together loosely. There will be raffia left over at both ends. Spiral wrap this chain/raffia braid around the wreath about six or seven times. Cut a 6 inch length of wire, and use it to attach the chain pieces together where they meet, leaving tails of chain hanging down. At the same place, tie the raffia together, leaving uneven, long tails along with the chain ends.
  • 3
Cut several lengths of raffia about 1 yard in length. Hold them together, and make a big, loopy bow. Tie this bow to the wreath using the ends of the raffia wrapping from Step 2.
  • 4
Insert and weave the stems of feather clusters and peacock eye feathers into the wreath to form a feather spray extending from the raffia bow. (Tip: you may want to use a dab or two of hot glue to help keep the feathers in position.)
  • 5
Use pliers to gently twist off the hanging loops from the peacock, peacock feather, and small butterfly charms and pendants. File the rough edges smooth.
  • 6
Glue the peacock feather charm over the tail of the peacock pendant. Glue this assembly over the center of the raffia bow. Glue the three metal feathers below the peacock tail, as an extension of the tail.
  • 7
Glue the butterfly charms around the wreath in a random, desired pattern.
  • 8
Use a jump ring from Step 1) to attach the birdcage to the wrapped chain near the top center of the wreath, so the cage hangs in the middle. Use the other jump ring to attach the tree branch charm across the wreath from the peacock and bow.
  • 9
Double the remaining wire, and use it to make and attach a sturdy hanging loop to the back side of the wreath near the top.
