Remove the pegs from each hole along the bottom of the whale. Divide the whale into sections and mark each section with a pencil.
Mark off one section with painter’s tape. Paint the marked off section with one of the darker colors listed under supplies , let dry, and then remove the tape. Repeat for each section and then let the whale dry overnight.
Mix one part Cottage White chalk paint with three parts water on a paper plate. Use the fan brush to apply the whitewash one section at a time. Wipe each section with a clean, lint free cloth as you go. Repeat for each section and the edges, wiping off any excess as you go, and let dry.
Apply a thin coat of wax using the # 15 flat filbert brush and let dry. Sand off the rough edges, wipe away the dust, and then apply a second coat of wax. Allow the second coat to dry completely.
Use a screwdriver and hammer to punch through the peg holes along the bottom of the whale. Cut or saw off the ends of the ceramic knobs if needed and insert them into the peg holes. Secure with hex nuts. Tip: Cover the hex nuts with adhesive felt to protect your walls.
