Project Instructions

  • 1
Remove back of large frame and set aside. Paint frame with Antique White paint. Allow to dry, then apply vinyl stencil. Apply a second stencil to cover entire 12 X 12 frame surface, making sure to line up edges. Trim off excess. Rub stencil backing with a craft stick to make sure it is firmly adhered. Peel off backing sheet, leaving black vinyl stencil on frame.
  • 2
Using roller, paint over stencil with Spa Blue paint. Allow to dry, then carefully peel off stencil and discard.
  • 3
Remove back from small 5 X 5 dental-edged frame. Using pliers, remove the metal clips that hold the frame back in. Paint with Silver Metallic paint.
  • 4
Using Silver Metallic paint, paint the inner edges of the large frame opening, then paint out from opening ¼ inch all along the opening of the frame. Repeat coats until opaque.
  • 5
Sand edges of blue frame to give it a worn-in, distressed look. Rub with the steel wool to create grayish aged markings , concentrating around outer edges.
  • 6
Glue small dental frame onto large frame so that openings line up using a very thin bead of Quick Grip Adhesive.
  • 7
Cut canvas sheet to fit frame back. Using spray adhesive, attach canvas to frame back. Replace frame back.
  • 8
Turn frame over and place one larger key or keyhole in the center, then a smaller key on either side. Attach to canvas with a thin bead of Quick Grip Adhesive.
  • 9
This is just a suggestion for what to put inside of the frame. Also try using your favorite photo, found objects or a family member’s silhouette.
