Project Instructions

  • 1
Remove back of large frame and set aside. Paint frame with Dove Grey paint. Allow to dry thoroughly, then apply vinyl stencil.
  • 2
Apply a second stencil to cover entire 12 X 12 frame surface, making sure to line up edges. Trim off excess. Rub stencil backing with a craft stick to make sure it is firmly adhered. Peel off backing sheet, leaving black vinyl stencil on frame.
  • 3
Paint over stencil with Natural Grey paint. Allow to dry, then carefully peel off stencil and discard.
  • 4
Remove back from small 5 X 5 scallop-edged frame. Using pliers, remove the metal clips that hold the frame back in. Paint frame with Marigold paint. Allow to dry.
  • 5
Using Marigold paint, paint the inner edges of the large frame opening, then paint out from opening ¼" all along the opening of the frame. Repeat coats until opaque.
  • 6
Sand edges of both frames to give them a worn, distressed look.
  • 7
Make a 50/50 mix of staining medium and Burnt Umber paint and coat edges of frames that you just sanded. Wipe off with a rag until you get the desired aged look. Allow to dry.
  • 8
Glue small scallop frame onto large frame so that openings line up using a very thin bead of Quick Grip™ Adhesive.
  • 9
Spray the back of cardstock with spray adhesive and then adhere to canvas sheet. Trim edges. Place in printer and print out any 5 X 5 Black and White artwork. Trim to size and insert into frame. Replace frame back.
  • 10
This is just a suggestion for what to put inside of the frame. Also try using your favorite photo, found objects or a family member's silhouette.
